2001 Cal State Fullerton Titans Baseball Team
The 2001 Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball team represented California State University, Fullerton in the 2001 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Titans played their home games at Goodwin Field, and played as part of the Big West Conference. The team was coached by George Horton in his fifth season as head coach at Cal State Fullerton. The Titans reached the College World Series, their eleventh appearance in Omaha, where they finished tied for fourth place after winning games against Nebraska and and losing two games to eventual runner-up Stanford. George Horton (baseball)
George Edward Horton (born October 5, 1953) is an American college baseball coach. He was head coach of the Oregon Ducks baseball and Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball programs. Playing career Horton was born and raised in Downey, California and graduated from Downey High School in 1971. He played on the Cerritos College baseball team in 1972 and 1973 under coach Wally Kincaid. Horton then played two seasons under head coach Augie Garrido at Cal State Fullerton in 1975 and 1976. He was on the Fullerton team that made the school's first appearance in the College World Series in 1975 College World Series, 1975. Coaching career Horton began his coaching career the same place he began his collegiate playing career, Cerritos College. He coached there for two seasons before moving onto Los Angeles Valley College. From there he went back to Cerritos College as an assistant before eventually becoming the head coach. Mike Rouse
Michael Gregory Rouse (born April 25, 1980) is an American former infielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2006 and 2007. Amateur career Rouse grew up in San Jose and attended Gunderson High School and Valley Christian High School. He initially played baseball for San Jose State University before transferring to Cal State-Fullerton. In his final collegiate season for the Titans, he was named to the all Big West team after hitting .377 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI. In 2000, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Professional career He was drafted in the 5th round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Rouse was traded to the Oakland Athletics prior to the season. Blair Field
Blair Field is a stadium in Long Beach, California. It originally opened in 1956 and is primarily used for baseball. It holds 3,238 people. It is named for Frank Blair, the sports editor for the ''Long Beach Press-Telegram'' newspaper for 32 years. Located in Recreation Park, it was constructed in 1958 and over the years has fostered local amateur baseball and hosted Moore League high school football and baseball teams, along with American Legion and Connie Mack baseball. Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park (formerly known as Cougar Field) is a baseball park in Houston, Texas. It is the home field of the Houston Cougars baseball team. Baylor Ballpark
Baylor Ballpark is the baseball stadium at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The stadium was built on the site of Ferrell Field, Baylor's home from 1977 to 1998, by mid-February in 1999. The Bears have hosted three NCAA regional and two super regional tournaments at Baylor Ballpark, including one of each in their College World Series season of 2005. Dedeaux Field
Dedeaux Field is a college baseball stadium in Los Angeles, California, U.S., on the west end of the campus of the University of Southern California. The home field of the USC Trojans of the Big Ten Conference, it has a seating capacity of 2,500. The current stadium opened in 1974, the year USC won its record fifth consecutive College World Series title, the sixth in seven years. It is named after longtime head coach Rod Dedeaux (1914–2006), who led the Trojans from 1942 until his retirement at age 72 in June 1986. The elevation of the playing field is about above sea level. The 2001 USC Trojans baseball team represented the University of Southern California collegiate sports in the 2001 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Trojans played their home games at Dedeaux Field. The team was coached by Mike Gillespie in his 15th year at USC.
