New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names. From the creation of the assembly up to about 1990, the post-nominals "MLA" (Member of the Legislative Assembly) were used. Electoral District Of Auburn
Auburn is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of the Australian state of New South Wales in Sydney's West. It is currently represented by Lynda Voltz, after the 2019 election. Auburn includes the suburbs of Auburn, Berala, Lidcombe, Newington, Rookwood, Silverwater, South Granville, Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Point and parts of Chester Hill, Guildford, Merrylands and Regents Park. Members History Auburn was created in 1927. It has been held by the Labor Party for its entire existence, and for most of that time has been one of Labor's safest seats in New South Wales. It is considered a part of Labor's heartland in Western Sydney. Auburn was once represented by former Premier, Jack Lang, and later by his son, Chris Lang. Peter Richard Nagle (born 23 March 1946) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 2001, representing the electorate of Auburn. Barbara Perry (politician)
Barbara Mazzel Anne Perry (born 6 April 1964) is an Australian former politician, representing Auburn for the Labor Party in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2015. Perry was the first woman of Lebanese origin to be elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Early years and background One of five children, Perry is the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Ralph and Susan Abood, and is married to Michael Perry with five sons. She was educated by the Sisters of Charity and the Marist Brothers before graduating in law from the University of Sydney, commencing work with the Legal Aid Commission of New South Wales in 1990. Judith Anne Hannan (née Irvine) is an Australian politician. She was elected a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Wollondilly as an Independent in 2023.
