The USL Second Division (commonly referred to as USL-2) was a professional men's soccer league in the United States, operated by United Soccer Leagues (USL). It was at the third tier of soccer in the United States, behind Major League Soccer (top tier) and the USL First Division (second tier), and one step up from the USL Premier Development League and other leagues in the fourth tier. The Houston Hurricanes were a soccer club that competed in the United Soccer Leagues from 1996 to 2000. Description and history The Hurricanes were a Division III (D-3) franchise, and their Major League Soccer affiliation was with the Kansas City Wizards owned by Joseph "Joey" Marc Serralta Ives and family making him the first Puerto Rican to own a professional sports franchise in the United States. Attendance averaged about 1,000 or less per game for the club's five seasons, and the franchise ceased playing in the USISL after the 2000 season and participated in the Lone Star Alliance before folding in 2001. Riverside County Elite were an American soccer team established in 1998 that spent the 2000 season in the USISL D-3 Pro League. History In 1998, Jack Fielding founded the Riverside County Elite as a U-21 team with the intention of eventually entering it into the USISL. He and his wife created the Riverside Soccer Development Corporation and entered into a partnership with the San Diego Soccer Development Corporation which operated the San Diego Flash. Fielding initially owned, operated and coached the team. In late 1999, Jan K. Skwara became the club CEO. In January 2000, the team hired Tom Evans as head coach. California Gold was an American soccer team which began playing under the Gold moniker in 2002. The club was founded in 1997 as the Stanislaus County Cruisers. The team was a member of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2006, when the team left the league and the franchise was terminated. Utah Blitzz was an American professional soccer team in based in Salt Lake City, Utah that played in the USL Pro Select League (later known as the USL Second Division). The Chico Rooks were an American soccer team, founded in 1993 by Dave Stahl and Eric Snedeker. The team was a member of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2006.
