The 2000 Thalgo Australian Women's Hardcourts was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the fourth edition of the event then known as the Thalgo Australian Women's Hardcourts, and was a Tier III event on the 2000 WTA Tour. It took place in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, from 2 January through 8 January 2000. Seventh-seeded Silvija Talaja won the singles title and earned $27,000 first-prize money. The WTA Tier III tournaments were Women's Tennis Association tennis third-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. The line-up of events varied over the years due to tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. Silvija Talaja (born 14 January 1978) is a Croatian former professional tennis player. Talaja won two singles titles and one doubles title on the WTA Tour, as well as one singles title on the ITF Circuit. On 29 May 2000, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 18. Julie Halard-Decugis (born 10 September 1970) is a French former professional tennis player. Tennis career Halard-Decugis lived in La Baule, France, during the initial stages of her career and later moved to Pully, Switzerland. She turned professional in 1986. She won the French Open junior singles title in 1988 and was the Wimbledon junior singles runner-up in 1987. She retired from the WTA Tour tennis circuit at the end of the 2000 season. A hardcourt (or hard court) is a type of surface or floor on which a sport is played, most usually in reference to tennis courts. It is typically made of rigid materials such as Asphalt concrete, asphalt or concrete, and covered with acrylic resins to seal the surface and mark the playing lines, while providing some cushioning. Conchita Martínez Bernat (born 16 April 1972) is a Spanish former professional tennis player and current coach. Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup Captain (sports), captain from 2007 until 2011.
