2000 Reading Borough Council Election
The 2000 Reading Borough Council election was held on 4 May 2000, at the same time as other local elections across England. Sixteen of the 45 seats on Reading Borough Council were up for election, being the usual third of the council (15 seats) plus a by-election in Kentwood ward, caused by the death of Labour councillor Doris Lawrence. At the time of the election there was another vacancy on the council in Church ward, where Labour councillor Maureen Lockey had also died, but the by-election for Church ward was not held until a few weeks later. Labour regained the vacant seat in the Kentwood by-election, and retained the vacant seat in Church ward at the by-election on 15 June 2000. David Sutton (archivist)
David Christopher Sutton (born 18 October 1950) is a British archival researcher, cataloguer, indexer, librarian, literary scholar, copyright researcher, food historian, fairtrade campaigner, bus company director, urban regeneration specialist and local politician. Career Trained as a librarian/archivist in Dublin and Sheffield, he has been a member of staff at the University of Reading Library since 1982. A party member in the Labour Party since the 1960s, he was leader of Reading Borough Council for 13 years, from May 1995 to May 2008. Then from 2010, he became chair of the board of Reading Buses, the local municipally-owned bus company, and also chair of the Reading Fairtrade Group. For his archival research and literary editorial work on the Location Register of English Literary Manuscripts and Letters he was nominated for the McColvin Medal in 1992 and highly commended for the Besterman Medal in 1998. 2000 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2000 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 4 May 2000. A third of the seats on each of the Metropolitan Boroughs were elected along with elections in many of the unitary authorities and district councils. There were no elections in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. On the same day, a parliamentary by-election took place in the Romsey constituency in southern England; the Liberal Democrats won the seat from the Conservatives. Reading Borough Council
Reading Borough Council is the local authority for the Borough of Reading in the English county of Berkshire. It is a unitary authority, having the powers of a non-metropolitan county and district council combined. Berkshire is purely a ceremonial county, with no administrative responsibilities. Rob Wilson
Robert Owen Biggs Wilson (born 4 January 1965) is an English politician and political author. He was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for the Reading East parliamentary constituency in the 2005 general election, being re-elected in the elections of 2010 and 2015, before being defeated in 2017. He became Minister for Civil Society in the Cabinet Office on 27 September 2014. Early life Wilson was born and brought up in south Oxfordshire. He attended Wallingford School and then, between 1984 and 1988, the University of Reading, where he studied history. He spent his final year at university as the President of the Reading University Students' Union. Wilson was a member of the Social Democratic Party.
