The 2000 Queen's Birthday Honours for Australia were announced on Monday 12 June 2000 by the office of the Governor-General. Richard Scotton
Richard "Dick" Bailey Scotton AO (19 December 1930 – 1 October 2019) was an Australian health economist, best known as one of the original key policy advisers who designed the Australian Medibank program—Australia's first and current system of publicly funded universal health care, now known as Medicare. Scotton was educated at the University of Sydney where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Economics. In June 2000 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for "service to social reform as a leading health economist and policy analyst, particularly through the development of the Medibank scheme." Leo George Schofield (born 6 May 1935) is an Australian restaurant critic, contributing a weekly column in ''The Mercury''. Schofield has served a long career as an advertising professional, journalist, creative arts festival director, and trustee of arts and cultural organisations. Iain Murray Rose, (6 January 1939 – 15 April 2012) was an Australian swimmer, actor, sports commentator and marketing executive. He was a six-time Olympic medalist (four gold, one silver, one bronze), and at one time held the world records in the 400-metre, 800-metre, and 1500-metre freestyle (long course). He made his Olympic debut at the 1956 Summer Olympics as a 17-year-old and won three Olympic medals, all gold. Doug Lowe (Australian Politician)
Douglas Ackley Lowe AM (born 15 May 1942) was the 35th Premier of Tasmania, from 1 December 1977 to 11 November 1981. His time as Premier coincided with controversy over a proposal to build a dam on Tasmania's Gordon River, which would have flooded parts of the Franklin River. The ensuing crisis saw Lowe overthrown as Premier and resign from the Labor Party, acting as an independent for the remainder of his political career. Patrick Corrigan, AM (born 9 September 1932), is an Australian businessman, art collector and philanthropist. Early life Corrigan was born at Hangkow (now Hankou, part of the city of Wuhan), central China. Corrigan and his mother were granted a travel permit and left mainland China ahead of his father aboard the SS Fausang, which was captured in the Battle of Hong Kong on 8 December 1941, the same day as the attack on Pearl Harbor. Corrigan and his mother subsequently spent four years in the Stanley Internment Camp during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. Graham Edward Connah (born 11 August 1934) is a British-born archaeologist who has worked extensively in Britain, West Africa and Australia. Connah was born in Cheshire, UK on 11 August 1934, and educated at Wirral Grammar School, and Cambridge University, receiving a PhD in 1959, after which he was a research assistant until 1961. Among his influences were David Clarke and Paul Ashby. Stephen Edward "Sam" Calder AM, OBE, DFC (10 August 1916 – 30 September 2008) was a decorated World War II flying ace, member of the Australian House of Representatives, and one of the founders of the Northern Territory Country Liberal Party. Air Marshal Douglas John Stuart Riding, (born 6 May 1943) is a retired senior Royal Australian Air Force commander and a former Vice Chief of the Defence Force. Riding was born in the Sydney suburb of Burwood, New South Wales, on 6 May 1943. Following a secondary education at Manly Boys High School, he joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in June 1962 as an aircrew cadet, and graduated as a pilot the following year. James Roland Wood
The Honourable James Roland Tomson Wood AO, KC (born 1941) is the chairman of Law Reform Commission of New South Wales, the chairman of the New South Wales Sentencing Council, the Inspector of the Police Integrity Commission and a former judge in Australia.
