2000 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2000 Atlantic 10 men's basketball tournament was played from March 8 to March 11, 2000. The tournament was played at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The winner was named champion of the Atlantic 10 Conference and received an automatic bid to the 2000 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. The top two teams in each division received a first-round bye in the conference tournament. Temple University won the tournament. Dayton and St. Bonaventure also received bids to the NCAA Tournament. First Union Spectrum
The Spectrum (later known as CoreStates Spectrum, First Union Spectrum and Wachovia Spectrum) was an indoor arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Opened in September 1967 as part of what is now known as the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, after several expansions of its seating capacity it accommodated 18,168 for basketball and 17,380 for ice hockey, arena football, indoor soccer, and box lacrosse. The Dayton Flyers men's basketball team is a college basketball program that competes in NCAA Division I and the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) representing the University of Dayton in Ohio. The 1999–2000 Dayton Flyers men's basketball team represented the University of Dayton during the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Flyers, led by sixth year head coach Oliver Purnell, played their home games at the University of Dayton Arena and were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They finished the season 22–9, 11–5 in A-10 play. They fell in the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 tournament, but received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Juan Ignacio Sánchez Brown (born May 8, 1977), commonly known as Pepe Sánchez, is an Argentine-American former professional basketball player. He played at the point guard position. He was a part of Argentina's 2004 Olympic gold medal team. Pepe Sánchez (1.93 metres, 6 feet 4 inches tall) was the first Argentine to play in the NBA. Mark Duane Karcher (born November 22, 1978) is a retired American professional basketball player who was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2nd round (48th pick) in the 2000 NBA draft. Although his professional career spanned seven years, he never played in a regular season NBA game, making him 1 of 8 players from the 2000 NBA Draft to never play in the league.
