19th Government Of Turkey
The 19th government of Turkey (22 May 1950 – 9 March 1951) was a government in the history of Turkey. It is also called ''the first Menderes government''. Background Democrat Party (DP) won the general elections held on 14 May 1950. This was the first election that was won by a party other than the Republican People's Party (CHP). Adnan Menderes of the Democrat Party became the prime minister. The government In the list below, the cabinet members who served only a part of the cabinet's lifespan are shown in the column "Notes". Aftermath The government had the majority in the parliament, but Menderes resigned on 8 March 1951. According to journalist Metin Toker, Adnan Menderes asked one of his colleagues in the cabinet to resign, but the minister refused to resign. Hasan Polatkan
Hasan Polatkan (1915 – 16 September 1961) was a Turkish politician and Minister of Labor and Finance, who was executed by hanging after the coup d'état in 1960 along with two other cabinet members. Early years He was born 1915 in Eskişehir, Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) to a family of Crimean Tatar descent. He studied political science at Istanbul University. After his graduation in 1936, Polatkan worked at the state-owned Ziraat Bank as inspector. Metin Toker
Metin Toker (1924 – 18 July 2002) was a Turkish journalist and writer. Life He was born in Istanbul. After finishing Galatasaray High School, he studied French philology at Istanbul University graduating in 1948. He then went to France to study Political Sciences. In 1955 after returning home, he married Özden İnönü, the daughter of İsmet İnönü, the second president of Turkey (in office 1938–1950) and the leader of the Republican People's Party. Metin Toker died on 18 July 2002 in Ibni Sina Hospital of Ankara University. He was laid to rest at the Cebeci Asri Cemetery in Ankara. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, Gülsün Bilgehan, Nurperi Özlen, a son Güçlü, and his grandchild named Maya. Ahmet Tevfik İleri (1911 – 31 December 1961) was a Turkish civil engineer, civil servant, politician and government minister. Biography Of Hamsheni origin, was born in Hemşin district of Rize Province in 1911. He spent his school years in Istanbul, and graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 1933. During his university years, he was elected as the chairman of the Turkish National Students Association (MTTB). In 1933 at the age of 21, he began a career as supervisor engineer at the General Directorate of Highways in Erzurum, where he worked until 1937.
