1999 Dhaka Premier Division League
The 1999 Dhaka Premier Division League, also known as the Keya Cosmetics Dhaka Premier Division League for sponsorship reasons, was the 47th season of the top-tier football league in Bangladesh and the 6th season of the Premier Division, following its succession from the First Division as the top-tier. A total of ten teams participated in the league which began on 22 June and ended on 5 November 1999. Venue The Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka was the main venue used for the league. Dhaka Senior Division Football League (), or the First Division Football League, is the third tier association football, football league in Bangladesh. Until 2006, it was the top-tier league of the country. It was established in 1948 as part of the Dhaka League, while modern-day Bangladesh was still part of Pakistan. Until 1971, it was run in parallel with the National Football Championship (Pakistan), National Football Championship in West Pakistan. The top-tier football league in Dhaka has seen numerous changes in both format and name. Initially, it was referred to as the First Division or Senior Division Football League. Arambagh Krira Sangha is a Bangladeshi sports club based in Dhaka, that competes in the Bangladesh Championship League, the second-tier of football in Bangladesh. History Arambagh Krira Sangha were formed in Dhaka way back in 1958. Originally established as a football club, Arambagh later added handball, basketball and volleyball in their roster. However, they became the first club from Bangladesh who played in final in an international club tournament during 1981 ANFA Cup, hosted by Nepal. Zakir Hossain (; born 10 December 1971) is a retired Bangladeshi footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He played for the Bangladesh national team from 1990 to 1999. Club career While training with Eastern Sporting Club, Zakir successfully trialed for the under-16 team of Mohammedan SC. In the same year, he was promoted to the senior team by coach Nasser Hejazi. In his First Division League debut, he came on as a substitute against BRTC Sports Club to score with his first touch. In 1990, he joined Abahani Limited Dhaka on a contract worth Tk 4.5 lakh. There, Zakir formed a midfield partnership with Russian midfielder Sergey Zhukov, which is deemed to be the main factor in the club's 1992 league triumph. Alfaz Ahmed (; born: 6 June 1973) is a Bangladeshi football coach and former player who is currently the head coach of Mohammedan SC. He played for the Bangladesh national team from 1995 to 2008. He is seen as one of the best strikers to ever play for Bangladesh. He won three international trophies while playing for his country. The 2000 National Football League was the inaugural season of the country's first football league held on a national scale. The league was also known as the Nitol-Tata National Football League due to sponsorship reasons. The league included the top three finishing clubs from the 1999 season of the country's top-tier football league at the time, the Dhaka Premier Division League. The clubs were the league champions Dhaka Mohammedan, runners-up Muktijoddha Sangsad KC and third-place Dhaka Abahani. Additionally, the district league champions of Chittagong ( Chittagong Abahani), Khulna (Khulna Abahani), and Rajshahi (Rajshahi Abahani) were also given direct entry to the league.
