The 1998–99 Santosh Trophy was the 55th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. Bengal Football Team
The West Bengal football team (Bengali: পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ফুটবল দল) is an Indian football team representing West Bengal in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They became the second Indian team to participate in the continental top tier tournament – Asian Champion Club Tournament – by playing in the 1970 edition following Mysore in 1969. History Incorporated in 1893 during the British rule in India, West Bengal have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 45 times, having won 32 titles, the most by any team. Managed by legendary Balaidas Chatterjee, the team won six Santosh Trophy titles between 1949 and 1959. In 1962, former Indian captain Samar Banerjee guided Bengal winning the trophy. Asif Saheer ( ml, ആസിഫ് സഹീര്) is an Indian former football player born in Mampad, Malappuram, Kerala. He plays as a striker for State Bank of Travancore, Kerala. He is a former captain of the Kerala State soccer team and is India's all-time leading goal scorer in the Santhosh Trophy tournament. Mario Soares (footballer)
Mario Soares (born 16 August 1967) is an Indian football manager and a former player who is an assistant coach of Indian I-League side Churchill Brothers. During his playing days, Soares played for Salgaocar, Dempo, Churchill Brothers, and represented India internationally. Playing career Born in Goa, Soares started his football career as a youth player with Salcette. He started his senior career with Salgaocar, where he won the Federation Cup with the club in 1988. He scored the winning goal in extra-time against Border Security Force as Salgaocar won 1–0. He then went on to play for Dempo and Churchill Brothers later in his career.
