The 1998–99 Nationalliga B season was the 52nd season of the Nationalliga B, the second tier level of ice hockey in Switzerland. 11 teams participated in the league, and EHC Chur won the championship and were promoted to Nationalliga A. National League B
The Swiss League, also known as the Sky Swiss League for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of the main professional ice hockey league in Switzerland, behind the National League (ice hockey), National League. The winners of the league each season plays a best-of-seven series against the bottom team of the NL, and if they win, they are promoted, while the National League team is relegated to the Swiss League. In 2024, the Swiss League changed its name to Sky Swiss League as a partnership with broadcaster Sky Switzerland. Prior to the 2017–18 Swiss League season, 2017–18 season, the league was formerly called National League B. The league attendance in 2018–19 was about 2,700 spectators. During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, the HC Lausanne signed National Hockey League players Martin St. Louis and Andy Roach. The team plays its home games in the 10,000-seat Vaudoise Aréna. Hockey Club Thurgau is a Swiss professional ice hockey club based in Weinfelden, Switzerland. The club was founded in 1989 and currently plays in the Swiss League (SL) at the Güttingersreuti, with a capacity of 3,200. HC Sierre is a professional ice hockey team, in Switzerland currently playing in the Swiss League (SL). Sierre has played in each of the top Swiss hockey leagues the National League (NL) and Swiss League (SL). EHC Biel-Bienne is a professional ice hockey club based in the bilingual city of Biel/Bienne, Switzerland and plays in the National League (NL). Since the city of Biel is completely bilingual, alongside the German name EHC Biel (Abbr: EHCB) the team also has a French name, HC Bienne (Abbr: HCB).
