1998 Formula 3000 Season
The 1998 International Formula 3000 Championship was the thirty-second season of the second-tier of Formula One feeder championship and also fourteenth season under the International Formula 3000 Championship moniker. The championship was contested over twelve rounds from 11 April to 26 September 1998. The Drivers' Championship was won by Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya of Super Nova Racing, who won four races. Drivers and teams Calendar 1998 was the last International F3000 season where races were held independently from 1998 Formula One season, Formula One Grands Prix. Pau Grand Prix, Pau and Autodromo di Pergusa, Pergusa had held International F3000 and previously European Formula Two Championship races uninterruptedly since 1972. Giovanni Montanari
Giovanni Montanari (born 24 April 1976) is an Italian former racing driver. Career Montanari began racing in Formula Opel between 1996 and 1997, representing Italy in the Nations Cup and winning in 1997 with Giovanni Anapoli. In the 1997 championship, he completed 13 races, winning 1 and securing 5 podium finishes. His points total, 103, meant he finished the season in 4th place. In 1998, Montanari graduated to International Formula 3000 where he drove for Draco Engineering. His best result came in Barcelona, where he qualified 7th and finished 8th. In 1999, he joined GP Racing but failed to qualify for either race he entered. Later in the season, he entered two races with Durango Racing, once again failing to qualify on both occasions. Bruno Junqueira (born November 4, 1976) is a Brazilian race car driver who most recently competed in the IRL IndyCar Series. He is a former Formula 3000 champion and three-time runner-up in the Champ Car World Series. Racing career Early career Junqueira started racing karts in Brazil and dominated Formula Three Sudamericana before moving to Formula 3000. International Draco Racing was a motorsport team. It was most well known for operating in the World Series by Renault, but had also taken part in Formula Opel Lotus, International Formula 3000 and Euro Formula 3000. Career Formula Opel Lotus Euroseries Draco was founded in 1989 by Adriano and Nadia Morini, and entered the Formula Opel Lotus Euroseries. Gonzalo "Gonchi" Rodríguez Bongoll (January 22, 1971 – September 11, 1999) was a Uruguayan racing driver. He was killed in a crash at Laguna Seca Raceway during practice for a CART race which would have been his second start in the series. Gastón Hugo Mazzacane (born 8 May 1975) is an Argentina, Argentine racing driver. He participated in 21 Formula One Grands Prix, debuting in the 2000 Australian Grand Prix. Team Astromega was a racing team from Belgium, headquartered in Heist-op-den-Berg and created in 1995 by Mikke Van Hool. Tomáš Enge (; born 11 September 1976) is a Czech former professional racing driver who has competed in many classes of motorsport, including three races in Formula One. Career Born in Liberec, Enge started his career at the age of 16, entering a Ford Fiesta he bought with his own money in the Czechoslovakian Ford Fiesta Cup. Enge participated in the final three races of the Formula One season, becoming the first, and to date only, driver from the Czech Republic to compete in Formula One. He made his debut at the Italian Grand Prix on 16 September, after being brought in by Prost as a replacement for Luciano Burti, who was recovering from his crash at the previous race in Belgium.
