Richmond Coliseum
Richmond Coliseum is a defunct arena located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, with a capacity of 13,500 that was most often used for various large concerts. The arena opened in 1971 and the region is looking to replace the aging facility with a larger one. The arena was quietly shuttered in February 2019 while new proposed replacements are in development. History Until John Paul Jones Arena opened in 2006, the Richmond Coliseum was the largest sports arena in Virginia. The Virginia Commonwealth University Rams men's basketball team played in the arena until the 7,500-seat Siegel Center opened on the VCU campus in 1999. The Old Dominion Monarchs men’s basketball team represents Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, United States in NCAA Division I men's competition. Jeff Capel II
Felton Jeffrey Capel II (January 6, 1953 – November 13, 2017) was an American National Basketball Association assistant coach, and, prior to that, a college basketball head coach. He was head coach of the Old Dominion Monarchs team from 1994 to 2001, of the North Carolina A&T Aggies from 1993 to 1994 and of the Fayetteville State Broncos from 1989 to 1993. He was the father of Pittsburgh Panthers head coach Jeff Capel III and former Appalachian State Mountaineers head coach Jason Capel. He was also an assistant coach with the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. On November 15, 2011, it was announced that Capel was hired as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. Odell Hodge
Odell Hodge (born March 26, 1973) is an American former basketball player for Old Dominion University and, later, professional teams in Belgium. High school Hodge was most known for his potent scoring ability since his high school days at Laurel Park High School in Martinsville, Virginia. He is in the state of Virginia's Top 25 single season scoring leaders of all-time because of his 786-point season during 1991–92. He is currently second all-time in Virginia high school career points (2,530). At the time of his graduation, he was 1st alltime. Old Dominion University Odell Hodge established himself as one of the greatest men's basketball players in Old Dominion University history. The 1997 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 13, 1997, and ended with the championship game on March 31 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the RCA Dome. A total of 63 games were played. The Final Four consisted of Kentucky, who entered the tournament as the defending national champions, Minnesota, making their first Final Four appearance, Arizona, making their third Final Four appearance and first since 1994, and North Carolina, making their thirteenth Final Four appearance and first since 1995.
