The president of Ireland () is the head of state of Republic of Ireland, Ireland and the supreme commander of the Defence Forces (Ireland), Irish Defence Forces. The 27th Dáil was elected at the 1992 general election on 25 November 1992 and met on 14 December 1992. People In Need Telethon
The People in Need Trust was a charity in Ireland. It was deregistered in 2016. Its main fundraiser, the RTÉ People in Need Telethon, was broadcast by RTÉ from 1989 until 2007 and supported by Eircom (formerly Telecom Éireann), raising more than €35 million in total. The theme tune was " Come On Everybody" by Eddie Cochran. As with '' The Late Late Toy Show'', Gay Byrne presented it wearing distinctive knitted jumpers. Previously there was Self Aid on 17 May 1986 followed by ''Telethon For The Homeless'' on 10 June 1988. The event was replaced by RTÉ Does Comic Relief on 26 June 2020. Riverdance
''Riverdance'' is a theatrical show that consists mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. With a score composed by Bill Whelan, it originated as an interval act during the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, featuring Irish dancing champions Jean Butler, Michael Flatley and the vocal ensemble Anúna. Shortly afterwards, husband and wife production team John McColgan and Moya Doherty expanded it into a stage show, which opened in Dublin on 9 February 1995. As of 2025, the show continues to tour the world. Background Riverdance is rooted in a three-part suite of baroque-influenced traditional music called ''Timedance''. Irish stepdance is a style of performance dance with its roots in traditional Irish dance. It is generally characterized by a stiff upper body and fast and precise movements of the feet. It can be performed solo or in groups. Aside from public dance performances, there are also stepdance competitions all over the world. These competitions are often called Feiseanna (singular Feis). Graham got the inspiration for the title while attending a Fats Domino concert at Dublin's National Stadium in 1991. Michael Cleary (priest)
Michael Cleary (23 November 1933 – 31 December 1993) was an Irish Roman Catholic priest, who also became a radio and TV personality. Coming to public knowledge due to frequent appearances on RTE's Late Late Show, Cleary has been described in some sources as a "powerful and charismatic figure" in the Catholic Church in Ireland, . He was a magnetic personality, but seen as approachable. He presented a late-night radio phone-in show in Dublin in the 1980s and hosted his own television chat show. He also published a book about maintaining faith in the modern world. After he released two albums of songs, he was nicknamed "The Singing Priest". Cleary toured often under this moniker singing at fundraising events and cabaret shows.
