1994 FIFA World Cup Qualification (AFC)
Listed below are the dates and results for the 1994 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds for the Asian zone ( AFC). For an overview of the qualification rounds, see the article ''1994 FIFA World Cup qualification''. A total of 29 teams entered the competition. The Asian zone was allocated 2 places (out of 24) in the final tournament. Format There were two rounds of play: *First Round: The teams were divided into 6 groups of 4 or 5 teams each, although Myanmar and Nepal withdrew after playing no matches. The teams would play against each other twice. The group winners would advance to the Final Round. *Final Round: The 6 teams would play against each other once in Qatar. Kazuyoshi Miura
, nicknamed King Kazu, is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Japan Football League club Atletico Suzuka, on loan from J1 League club Yokohama FC. He is the world's second oldest active player to play and oldest to score in a professional match. He played for the Japan national team from 1990 to 2000, and was the first Japanese recipient of the IFFHS Asia's Footballer of the Year award. With 55 goals in 89 caps for the national team, Miura is second most prolific goalscorer in the national team's history, behind Kunishige Kamamoto. Serge Muhmenthaler (born 20 May 1953) is a Swiss former professional association football, football player and Referee (association football), referee. He played as a forward (association football), forward during the 1970s and 1980s. As referee he is known for having refereed a Swiss Cup Final, a UEFA Europa League, UEFA Cup Final and one match in the UEFA Euro 1996. Career as player Muhmenthaler was brought up in Grenchen and started his football with the youth teams of the local football club FC Grenchen. He also played in their first team in the Swiss Challenge League, Nationalliga B and they won promotion to the Swiss Super League, Nationalliga A in the 1970–71 season. Laith Hussein Shihaib Al-Tawlid (; born 13 October 1968) is an Iraqi former football player who played as a midfielder and served as the captain of the Iraqi national team. Fabio Baldas (born 19 March 1949 in Trieste) is a former association football referee from Italy. He is mostly known for supervising one match in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, the first-round Group A contest between the United States and Colombia. Ion Crăciunescu
Ion Crăciunescu (born 27 September 1950) is a Romanian former football referee and player. Born in Craiova, he comes from the town of Râmnicu Vâlcea. Crăciunescu was a footballer at Chimia Râmnicu Vâlcea and Universitatea Craiova until he retired in 1975, choosing to start a new career as a referee. He became an international referee in 1984. Although he never refereed at a World Cup or European Championship finals, he was selected as one of five referees for the 1995 King Fahd Cup (later known as the FIFA Confederations Cup).
