The 1994 California Secretary of State election occurred on November 8, 1994. The primary elections took place on March 8, 1994. The Republican nominee, State Assemblyman Bill Jones, narrowly defeated the Democratic nominee, acting Secretary of State Tony Miller, who assumed the seat when March Fong Eu resigned to become United States Ambassador to Micronesia. Bill Jones (California Politician)
William Leon Jones (born December 20, 1949) is an American politician from California who served in the California State Assembly and later served as California's 25th Secretary of State. He was an unsuccessful Republican candidate for Governor of California in 2002 as well as an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate from California in 2004 against incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer. Early life Born in Coalinga, California, Jones earned his bachelor's degree in agribusiness and plant sciences from California State University, Fresno in 1971. "None of the above" (NOTA), or none for short, also known as "against all" or a "scratch" vote, is a ballot option in some jurisdictions or organizations, designed to allow the voter to indicate disapproval of the candidates in a voting system. It is based on the principle that consent requires the ability to withhold consent in an election, just as they can by voting "No" on ballot questions. It must be contrasted with " abstention", in which a voter does not cast a ballot.
