Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs (HK) or HK Iceland is an Icelandic sports club from the town of Kópavogur, mainly known for its football and handball teams. The club has a football team playing in the top tier of Icelandic football. History The club dates back to 1969, but was officially established on 26 January 1970. They were originally only a handball team, with the football team established in 1992. They bounced around in lower divisions until, in the summer of 2007 they first played in the Icelandic top division, the Úrvalsdeild. The club were relegated in their second season to the second tier and were again relegated to the third tier in 2011. UMFS Dalvík (officially named Ungmennafélag Svarfdæla, usually referred to as Dalvík, previously referred to as Svarfdælir) is an Icelandic sports club located in Dalvík. The club has had competitors in various sports in Iceland, most notably football, athletics and basketball. The club currently has no senior football team but is part of the Dalvík/Reynir cooperation and has youth teams playing in national competitions. Dalvík has also had teams playing in national handball and volleyball leagues. History UMFS Dalvík was founded in 1909 and was from the start involved in and organized various activities for youth in the Svarfaðardalur area, mostly sports. Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar ( en, Hawks F.C.) is an Icelandic multi-sport club from Hafnarfjörður with divisions in Association football, Football, Haukar Handball, Handball, Basketball, Karate, Skiing & Chess. Club history The club was founded on 12 April 1931, when 13 young boys got together in a local KFUM (Icelandic YMCA) house to form a new athletic club in the town. At the club's 3rd meeting, they decided that it would be named Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar. Facilities Haukar's home is Ásvellir which has a purpose built arena for Handball and Basketball as well as a grass and artificial turf field for the Football team. Reynir Sandgerði, sometimes known as Reynir S., is an Icelandic sports club based in Sandgerði on the Reykjanes peninsular. The club has active departments in football, basketball and swimming. Basketball Reynir Sandgerði's basketball department was founded in 1980. It played in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla during the 1989–1990 season. Íþróttafélagið Grótta (English: ''Grótta Sports Club''; ) is an Icelandic sports club based in the town of Seltjarnarnes, in the Capital Region. The club is best known for its women's handball team that won the national championship in 2015 and 2016, but also has departments for gymnastics, football and powerlifting. History Grótta was officially founded on 24 April 1967 by Garðar Guðmundsson, a football supporter from Seltjarnarnes who had begun the process of forming a club the previous year. Initially the club had only a football team but later expanded to include handball (1969), gymnastics (1985) and powerlifting (2013).
