The 1992 Missouri Attorney General election was held on 3 November 1992 in order to elect the attorney general of Missouri. Democratic nominee and incumbent member of the Missouri Senate Jay Nixon defeated Republican nominee and former member of the Missouri House of Representatives David Steelman and Libertarian nominee Mitchell J. Moore. Jeremiah Wilson "Jay" Nixon (born February 13, 1956) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the List of governors of Missouri, 55th governor of Missouri from 2009 to 2017. David Steelman
David Steelman is an American politician from the state of Missouri. He served in the Missouri House of Representatives, including his time as minority speaker, and the University of Missouri Board of Curators. Career David Steelman earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Missouri, and graduated first in his class from the University of Missouri Law School in 1978. He is the son of the late Dorman L. Steelman, who served in the Missouri House of Representatives, as a circuit judge, and as chairman of the Missouri Republican Party. Steelman, a Republican, was elected to his first term in the Missouri House of Representatives in 1978 at the age of 25 (under the state constitution, the minimum age for a state representative is 24). The Office of the Missouri Attorney General was created in 1806 when Missouri was part of the Louisiana Territory. The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 181,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years.
