1992 European Cup Final
The 1992 European Cup final was a football match held on 20 May 1992 at Wembley Stadium, London, between Sampdoria of Italy and Barcelona of Spain. Barcelona won the game 1–0 after extra time, thanks to a Ronald Koeman free kick, to record their first triumph in the competition. It was the first to have a group stage involving the eight second-round winners split into two groups, and the winner of each one met in the final. In doing so, they became the second Spanish club to win the tournament and the 19th overall. This was the last final before the competition was re-branded as the Champions League. The final is, as of 2025, the most recent in which both of the finalists entered a European Cup/UEFA Champions League final having not won any of the previous finals. Srečko Katanec
Srečko Katanec (; born 16 July 1963) is a Slovenian retired football manager and player. At international level, he was capped for both the Yugoslavia and Slovenia national teams. A former midfielder, who was also capable of playing as a defender, Katanec is regarded as one of the greatest Slovenian footballers of all time, having represented Yugoslavia at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, UEFA Euro 1984 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup. After Slovenia's independence, Katanec made five appearances for the newly formed Slovenia national team before retiring from professional football. Marco Lanna (; born 13 July 1968) is an Italian former professional footballer who played at both club and international levels as a defender. Moreno Mannini (; born 15 August 1962) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a right-back. Club career Born in Imola, Province of Bologna, Mannini started playing professionally with Como in Serie B, appearing in 36 games in his second season as the Lombardy team promoted to Serie A.
