The 1988 UEFA Cup Final was an association football tie played on 4 May 1988 and 18 May 1988 between RCD Español of Spain and Bayer Leverkusen of West Germany, to determine the champion of the 1987–88 UEFA Cup competition. 1987–88 UEFA Cup
The 1987–88 UEFA Cup was the 17th season of the UEFA Cup, the secondary club football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The final was played over two legs at the Estadi de Sarriá, Barcelona, Spain, and at Ulrich-Haberland Stadion, Leverkusen, Germany. The competition was won by Bayer Leverkusen of Germany, who defeated Español of Spain on penalty kicks with an aggregate result of 3–3. In only their second season of European football, Bayer Leverkusen earned their first major title in professional competition. This was also the second UEFA Cup final decided on penalty kicks, four years after the first one. Sebastián Losada Bestard (born 3 September 1967) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a striker. He amassed La Liga totals of 131 matches and 34 goals over nine seasons in representation of five teams, starting his career with Real Madrid. MFK Vítkovice is a football club from Vítkovice, Ostrava, Czech Republic. It was founded in 1919 as FC Vítkovice, announced bankruptcy in 2011 and transformed to MFK Vítkovice.
