Yvonne Murray
Yvonne Carole Grace Murray-Mooney (née Murray; born 4 October 1964), is a Scottish former middle-distance and long-distance track and road-running athlete. She won a bronze medal in the 3000 metres at the 1988 Olympic Games, and gold medals at this distance at the 1987 European Indoor Championships, the 1993 World Indoor Championships and the 1990 European Championships. She also won a gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. Her 3000 metres best of 8:29.02 was set in the Olympic Final of 1988. Biography Murray was born on 4 October 1964 in Musselburgh, East Lothian, Scotland. She was initially a hockey player for Musselburgh Grammar School prior to taking up athletics in 1979. Murray first competed on the international stage as a 16 year old representing Scotland at the 1981 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Madrid, where she finished 79th in the senior women's race. Elly Van Hulst
Elisa ("Elly") Maria van Hulst (born 9 June 1959) is a former middle distance runner from the Netherlands. She competed in the 800 m and 1500 m events at the 1984 Summer Olympics and in the 1500 m and 3000 m at the 1988 Summer Olympics; her best achievement was ninth place in the 3000 m in 1988. During her career she set one world record, on 4 March 1989 at the 1989 European Indoor Championships in Athletics in the 3000 m event (8:33.82), as well as three national records: in the mile (1986, 4:22.40), 1500 m (1987, 4:03.63) and 3000 m (1988, 8:33.97). In 1989 she was named Dutch Sportswoman of the Year. She started training in ballet, but had a limited success because of her height. Vera Michelle, née Steiert (born 6 November 1958) is a retired (West) German middle and long-distance runner, born in Lindau. In her early career she competed in 3000 metres at the 1983 World Championships, without advancing from the heats. She finished fourth at the 1982 European Indoor Championships and also fourth at the 1983 European Indoor Championships. She later started doubling in both 1500 and 3000 metres. At the 1986 European Championships she did not reach the 1500 metres final, but finished tenth in the 3000 metres final. The same thing happened at the 1987 World Championships, only with an eleventh place in the 3000 final. At the 1988 Olympics she did not progress, neither from the 1500 nor the 3000 heat. Christina Angela Mai (born 3 September 1961) is a retired (West) German long-distance runner. In the 1980s she finished lowly at the 1986 and the 1987 World Cross Country Championships. She later competed on the highest level in 3000 metres indoors. She finished fifth at the 1987 European Indoor Championships, was disqualified in the final round at the 1991 World Indoor Championships, finished fourth at the 1993 World Indoor Championships, sixth at the 1992 European Indoor Championships, and fourth at the 1994 European Indoor Championships. She later started, but did not finish, the 1997 World Half Marathon Championships. Mai became German indoor champion in the 3000 metres in 1993 and 1994. She became West German half marathon champion in 1987, and won the club competition in this event from 1983 through 1991 except for 1988.
