1987 Australian Open
The 1987 Australian Open was a tennis tournament played on grass courts at the Kooyong Stadium in Melbourne in Victoria in Australia. It was the 75th edition of the Australian Open and was held from 12 through 25 January 1987; the first tournament to be held after New Year's Day since the late 1960s and also the last tournament to be played on grass before the change of surface. Change of schedule After the event did not hold a schedule in 1986 due to the Open changing dates from December to January. This allowed it to count as a Grand Prix event after the movement of the Grand Prix Masters from March to early December. As such, this edition of Australian Open was held. Danny Saltz (born July 30, 1961) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Career Saltz played collegiate tennis for the University of California, Los Angeles. His first Grand Slam appearance was at the 1981 US Open, where he lost in a straight sets loss to Bruce Manson, in a match which lasted just 20 games. He fared better when he returned to the US Open in 1984, claiming the first two sets against Todd Nelson, but he was unable to win the match. Roger Rasheed (born 10 March 1969) is a former Australian rules football player, tennis player, tennis coach and tennis commentator with the Seven Network for 12 years. Rasheed is best known as Grand Slam coach of Australian former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, former World No. 6 Gaël Monfils, former World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, former World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov and through his own website ProTennisCoach.com. Michael Walker (born 21 April 1966) is a former professional tennis player from Wales who competed for Great Britain and Hong Kong. Biography Early life Furlong, who was born in London, grew up in Sydney and attended Narrabeen Sports High School.
