1986–87 Nottingham Forest F.C. Season
The 1986–87 season was Nottingham Forest's 122nd year in existence and eleventh consecutive season in the First Division. Also the club competed in the FA Cup and League Cup. Summary During summer manager Clough continued the squad rebuilding without notable transfers. Central back defender Chris Fairclough returned after a year injured, the same situation happened with veteran Forward Garry Birtles "reinforcing" the strikers line. Meanwhile, Dutch Goalkeeper Hans Segers lost his spot as starter to Steve Sutton and left the club to sign with Stoke City. Full Members' Cup
The Full Members' Cup was an association football cup competition held in English football from 1985 to 1992. It was also known under its sponsored names of the Simod Cup from 1987 to 1989 and the Zenith Data Systems Cup from 1989 to 1992. The competition was created after the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster, when English clubs were banned from European competition, as an additional competition for clubs in the top two English League divisions. The competition's name refers to the clubs that were Full Members of the Football League, with full voting rights; teams from the lower two divisions were Associate Members and were only eligible for the Associate Members' Cup (now known as the EFL Trophy). Johnny Metgod
Johannes Anthonius Bernardus Metgod (born 27 February 1958) is a Dutch former professional footballer who works as assistant manager of United Arab Emirates. Club career Playing as a centre-back, Metgod started his professional career in the 1970s playing for HFC Haarlem. After one season with Haarlem, he moved to play for AZ Alkmaar, spending six years at the club, including their UEFA Cup final defeat against English side Ipswich Town, during which he scored a goal in the 4–2 second leg win. In 1982, Metgod moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid. He then moved to England in 1984 to sign for Nottingham Forest, where he was a regular player for three seasons before signing for Tottenham Hotspur in 1987. Ian Bowyer
Ian Bowyer (born 6 June 1951) is an English former footballer who played mostly as a midfielder, best known for many honours in his career at Nottingham Forest. At Nottingham Forest he won the 1977–78 Football League and 1977–78 Football League Cup. The following season he won the 1979 European Cup final and 1978–79 Football League Cup. He was part of Forest's successful retaining of the European Cup the season after. Other honours at Forest included the 1976–77 Anglo-Scottish Cup, 1976 promotion from the English second tier to the top flight, the 1978 FA Charity Shield and the 1979 UEFA Super Cup. Franz Carr (born 24 September 1966) is an English former professional footballer who played as a winger from 1984 until 2000. Darren Paul James Wassall (born 27 June 1968) is an English football coach and former player who played as a defender. He was the academy director of Derby County from 2009 until 2023; he was also the club's head coach on a temporary basis during 2016. Brett Williams (born 19 March 1968) is an English former footballer who played for Hereford United, Nottingham Forest, Northampton Town, Oxford United, Stockport County and Stoke City. Desmond Sinclair Walker (born 26 November 1965) is an English football coach and former player who played as a defender. At club level he played in seven cup finals for Nottingham Forest at Wembley, winning five of them. He was Forest's player of the year three times. On four straight occasions at Forest he was selected for the PFA Team of the Year. At Sheffield Wednesday he picked up another club player of the year accolade. Gary Fleming (born 17 February 1967) is a retired footballer from Derry, Northern Ireland. He played for Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Barnsley before retiring aged 30 due to injury. Following his retirement, he became a physiotherapist for Forest and later opened his own private practice. Career He started his career as a youth at Tristar Boys F.C. and later signed for Derry Athletic under the tutelage of coach Jim O'Hea with whom he went to Limavady United. There, he caught the eye of Nottingham Forest and in 1983 he signed a contract with them. His début was against Arsenal on 13 April 1985.
