1986 San Diego Chargers Season
The San Diego Chargers season was the franchise's 17th season in the National Football League (NFL), and its 27th overall. the team failed to improve on their 8–8 record from 1985. Following a stagnant 1–7 start, Head Coach Don Coryell was fired and Al Saunders was named interim Head Coach. After the season, Saunders was named the permanent Head Coach and would hold the position through the end of the 1988 season. Leslie O'Neal was named Defensive Rookie of the Year. James Joseph FitzPatrick, III (born February 1, 1964) is an American former professional football player who was an offensive tackle for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Fitzpatrick was born in Heidelberg, Germany. He began his football career in Beaverton, Oregon where he was a two way starter for the State Champion Beaverton High School Beavers. Donald Brown (born November 28, 1963) is an American former professional football defensive back who played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and New York Giants. The 1985 UCLA Bruins football team was an American football team that represented the University of California, Los Angeles during the 1985 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their tenth year under head coach Terry Donahue, the Bruins compiled a 9–2–1 record (6–2 Pac-10), finished in first place in the Pacific-10 Conference, and were ranked #7 in the final AP Poll. UCLA defeated defending national champion BYU 27–24 in Provo to start the season, and tied eventual SEC and Sugar Bowl champion Tennessee.
