1985 Aruban General Election
General elections were held in Aruba on 22 November 1985 to elect the Island Council. They were held shortly before Aruba was split from the Netherlands Antilles and obtained the status of a 'land' (country) within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Island Council was converted into the first Estates of Aruba on 1 January 1986. Although the People's Electoral Movement  won the most seats, the Aruban People's Party formed a coalition government with the Aruban Patriotic Party, Aruban Democratic Party and National Democratic Alliance, with Henny Eman becoming the first Prime Minister of Aruba.Aruba General Election Results - 22 November 1985

The Parliament of Aruba (, ) is the unicameral legislature or parliament of Aruba. The parliament has 21 members, elected for a four-year term by proportional representation. Each member holds their seats until the parliament is dissolved, which is every four years by a general election. The leader of the party which gains a majority of seats usually becomes the Prime Minister of Aruba, prime minister. Elections 2024 The most recent elections were held on 6 December 2024. Elections In Aruba
Aruba elects a legislature on the national level. The Estates (''Staten'') have 21 members, elected for a four-year term by Open list Party-list proportional representation. Seats are distributed between parties that have gained at least one full quota (1/21, or approximately 4.76% of the vote) using the Hagenbach-Bischoff system (a variant of the D'Hondt method). Before becoming its own country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba participated in elections for its Island Council and for the Aruba constituency of the parliament of the Netherlands Antilles. People's Electoral Movement (Aruba)
The People's Electoral Movement (, , MEP) is a social democratic political party in Aruba. Following the 2001 general election for the Parliament of Aruba the party won 52.4% of popular vote and 12 out of 21 seats. In the 2005 general election, the party won 43% of the popular vote and 11 out of 21 seats thus won the election and remained in power. In the 2009 general election, MEP lost 2 seats and won 36% of the vote, subsequently losing the election. In the 2017 general election, the MEP won 37% of the vote, and gained a seat. Following the appointment of a formateur, the MEP agreed to form a Coalition government with Pueblo Orguyoso y Respeta (POR) and Network of Electoral Democracy (RED). Betico Croes
Gilberto François "Betico" Croes (; 25 January 1938 – 26 November 1986) was an Aruban political activist who was a proponent for Aruba's separation from the Netherlands Antilles. This eventually occurred in 1986, but following a car accident on 31 December 1985 (the night of ''status aparte''), Croes lapsed into a coma and never became conscious to see his accomplishment.
