1983–84 FC Basel Season
The Fussball Club Basel 1893 1983–84 season was their 90th season since the club was founded. It was their 38th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after they won promotion during the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Urs Gribi was their newly appointed chairman, he replaced Roland Rasi who stood down at the AGM after just one year chairmanship. Overview Pre-season Ernst August Künnecke was appointed as Basel’s new first team manager and Emil Müller was appointed as his assistant. They had taken over from Rainer Ohlhauser, who had been manager for just the previous season. Künnecke had not played as professional footballer, but had played in the highest amateur levels before becoming professional head coach in Belgium. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Cup Of The Alps
Coppa delle Alpi (translated as ''Cup of the Alps'') was a friendly football tournament, first organized by the Italian national league as it started in 1960 and then they were aided by the Swiss League from 1962, for the reason that the majority of the Alps are in Switzerland. This competition ran from 1960 until 1987. In the 1960s and 1961 editions ranking was compiled by adding the points of the Italian and Swiss teams. Rolf Lauper
Rolf Lauper (17 January 1960 – 18 August 2006) was a Swiss footballer who played in the late 1970s, the 1980s and early 1990s as defender. Lauper played his youth football with Young Fellows Zürich and advanced to their first team during their promotion season 1976–77 from the Nationalliga B, the second tier of Swiss football. Lauper stayed with the club in the 1977–78 Nationalliga A. But this was not a successful season and the club suffered relegation. Before the 1978–79 Nationalliga A season, Lauper signed a contract with Grasshopper Club. He stayed with the club for two and a half years, before he moved on to FC Wettingen who at that time played in the Nationalliga B. With Wettingen in the 1981–82 Nationalliga B season Lauper won promotion. He stayed with the club for one more season. Martin Andermatt
Martin Andermatt (born 21 November 1961) is a Swiss football manager and a former player who is an assistant coach with Basel. Club career The trained teacher began his career as player with SC Zug, FC Baar, FC Emmenbrücke, and Wettingen. After this followed assignments as professional with FC Basel and later Grasshopper Club Zürich. Andermatt joined Basel's first team for their 1983–84 season under head coach Ernst-August Künnecke. After playing in nine test games Andermatt played his domestic league debut for his new club in the away game in the Stadio Comunale on 10 August 1983 as Basel were defeated 2–4 by Bellinzona. He scored his first goal for the club just three days later, on 13 August in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium. It was the fourth goal of the game as Basel won 5–2 against Luzern. Urs Suter
Urs Suter (born 4 March 1959 in Zürich) is a Swiss former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Football career Suter started his football with the youth teams of the local football club FC Langnau am Albis before moving on to Grasshopper Club Zürich. He played in their youth team and later in their reserve side. During the 1980–81 and 1981–82 seasons he played for FC Blue Stars Zürich in the Swiss 1. Liga. Urs Suter signed his first professional contract with promoted FC Wettingen in 1981. During his first season he was the reserve goalkeeper and did not come to any playing time, but the team won promotion. In the 1982–83 season Suter became first keeper and played 29 games. Roger Bossert
Roger Bossert (born 4 October 1961) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1980s as defender. Bossert joined FC Basel's first team for their 1982–83 season und head-coach Rainer Ohlhauser. Bossert played his debut for the club in the away game in the Swiss Cup on 17 October 1982 as Basel won 4–0 against lower tier local club FC Breitenbach. He played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 21 November as Basel were defeated 3–4 by Luzern. In his one season with the club Bossert played a total of 12 games for Basel without scoring a goal. Five of these games were in the Nationalliga A, two in the Swiss Cup and five were friendly games. Winfried Berkemeier
Winfried Berkemeier (born 22 January 1953 in Gronau (Westf.)) is a former German footballer. This midfielder and forward played six seasons in the Bundesliga for four teams. Though he was unable to break through with 1. FC Köln, he played with Tennis Borussia Berlin and through the whole of his first season only missed one game. Berkemeier had little luck, however, since with four of the teams he joined, they were to immediately be demoted from the 1. FC Wettingen
FC Wettingen was a Swiss football club from Wettingen, Switzerland. It was founded in 1931, but due to financial problems they went bankrupt in 1993. In the same year it was refounded as ''FC Wettingen 93''. In the 2012/13 season, the name was changed back to ''FC Wettingen''. They play their home games at Stadion Altenburg. History FC Wettingen spent the first few decades of their life bobbing around the lower echelons of the Swiss leagues until finally in 1969 they made it to the National League B. The next season they gained promotion and in the 1969/70 season they played in the Swiss Super League. Bruno Graf
Bruno Graf (30 August 1953 – 15 May 2020) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played as a defender. Football career Graf played most of his youth football by FC St. Gallen, with a short visit to FC Gossau, and advanced to the St. Gallen first team, who played in the Nationalliga A as an 18-year-old. During his first two seasons he played only three games and was therefore loaned to Brühl St. Gallen in the second tier of Swiss football to obtain more playing experience. Following his return to his club of origin, things did not work out as Graf wished and therefore a few years later, in 1977, he moved on to Young Fellows Zürich. Serge Gaisser (born 5 January 1958) is a French former professional footballer who played as a midfielder and is best known for his years with FC Basel and FC Mulhouse. Career Born in Muespach, Gaisser grew up in Saint-Louis, Haut-Rhin and started his football by the localclub Saint-Louis Neuweg, who at that time played in the French Division 3, the third tier of French football.
