1983 UEFA Cup Final
The 1983 UEFA Cup Final was played on 4 May 1983 and 18 May 1983 between Anderlecht of Belgium and Benfica of Portugal. Anderlecht won 2–1 on aggregate. Because of the construction of their new stadium, Anderlecht played their home games in the Heysel stadium in 1983, which included the first leg of the UEFA Cup final. After half an hour, Frank Vercauteren was able to provide a cross, which Kenneth Brylle headed in. Anderlecht travelled to Lisbon with the smallest lead. Benfica started the return match with a series of chances. This resulted in a goal by Shéu in the 32nd minute. Only 6 minutes later, the technically skilled Juan Lozano restored the balance on a pass from Franky Vercauteren. 1982–83 UEFA Cup
The 1982–83 UEFA Cup was the 12th edition of the UEFA Cup, the third-tier club football competition organised by UEFA. The final was played over two legs at the Heysel Stadium, Brussels, Belgium, and at the Estádio da Luz, Lisbon, Portugal, between Anderlecht of Belgium and Benfica of Portugal. Anderlecht won by an aggregate result of 2–1 to claim their first and only UEFA Cup title. As of 2024, Anderlecht remains the only Belgian team to have won either the UEFA Cup or its successor tournament, the UEFA Europa League. Juan Lozano
Juan José Lozano Bohórquez (born 30 August 1955) is a Spanish former footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Club career Born in Coria del Río, Province of Seville, Lozano's parents migrated to Belgium when he was still very young. He lived near K. Beerschot VAC's stadium, and joined its youth system at age 11, making his senior debut in 1974 at the age of 19 and soon standing out for his outstanding dribbling skills. Lozano moved to the United States in 1980 to play for the Washington Diplomats, but soon returned to Belgium, being acquired by R.S.C. Anderlecht where he continued to regularly put on stellar performances. In 1982–83, he was instrumental in the Brussels side's UEFA Cup conquest – a 2–1 aggregate win against S.L. Benfica – scoring in the second leg in Lisbon with his head. Wim Hofkens (born 27 March 1958) is a former football player who played five games for the Dutch national side. Hofkens is one of only eight Dutch football players to be selected for the national team while never having played in the Dutch Eredivisie. Jacky Munaron
Jacques "Jacky" Munaron (born 8 September 1956) is a Belgian former football goalkeeper. As goalkeeper coach, he most recently worked for futsal team FP Halle-Gooik until 2021. As a young player, Munaron started as the keeper of the youth team of FC Dinant, and Munaron stayed in Dinant and became a player of the A-team. FC Dinant played in the Third Division at that time. In 1974, Munaron was discovered by RSC Anderlecht and moved to Brussels. Over there, he was only a substitute player, as Jan Ruiter, the Dutch keeper of Anderlecht, was the first choice of the trainer. Also later, when Anderlecht bought Nico de Bree, another Dutch player of RWDM, Munaron was a substitute player. Munaron got some chances to play and quickly became the real number one of Anderlecht. The King Baudouin Stadium ( ; ) is a sports ground in Brussels, Belgium. Located in the north-western district of the City of Brussels, it was built to embellish the Heysel Plateau, Heysel/Heizel Plateau in view of the Brussels International Exposition (1935), 1935 Brussels International Exposition. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total.
