1982–83 Real Madrid CF Season
The 1982–83 season is Real Madrid Club de Fútbol's 81st season in existence and the club's 52nd consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. Summary Club legend Alfredo Di Stéfano came back to the club as head coach in a high-expected movement after he was La Liga champion managing Valencia CF in 1971. The arrive of Di Stefano as the team head coach was delayed by then club President Santiago Bernabeu -who died in 1978- after personal issues aroused since 1964 when the Argentine striker rejected his offer to retire with an administrative spot in the club and chose to play two more seasons with RCD Espanyol. Finally, after a long turmoil lasting almost a year Incumbent Luis de Carlos won the reelection as President of the club on 9 October 1982 defeating the electoral campaign of challenger Ramon Mendoza by more than 3,000 votes. Summary Owing to financial issues, President Luis de Carlos, for the second consecutive summer, chose not to reinforce the club for the campaign with high-profile players and on 6 September 1981 announced his candidacy for seeking reelection as president. After struggling the first half of the League season trailing behind FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad, Boskov managed the squad to the first spot briefly during January. Then, the team collapsed in the League table during February with a bad series of results included six matches without victory. Laurie Cunningham
Laurence Paul Cunningham (8 March 1956 – 15 July 1989) was an English professional footballer who played as a left winger. He notably played in England, France, and Spain, where he became the first-ever English player to sign for Real Madrid. Cunningham had signed a schoolboy contract with Arsenal in 1970, but was released in 1972 as his style of play was deemed incompatible with the Gunners' "give and go" tactics. John Metgod
Johannes Anthonius Bernardus Metgod (born 27 February 1958) is a Dutch former professional footballer who works as assistant manager of United Arab Emirates. Club career Playing as a centre-back, Metgod started his professional career in the 1970s playing for HFC Haarlem. After one season with Haarlem, he moved to play for AZ Alkmaar, spending six years at the club, including their UEFA Cup final defeat against English side Ipswich Town, during which he scored a goal in the 4–2 second leg win. In 1982, Metgod moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid. Allan Simonsen
Allan Rodenkam Simonsen (born 15 December 1952) is a Danish former footballer and manager. He most prominently played as a striker for German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, winning the 1975 and 1979 UEFA Cups, as well as for Barcelona in Spain, winning the 1982 Cup Winners' Cup. Santiago Bernabéu de Yeste (; 8 June 1895 – 2 June 1978) was a Spanish footballer who played for Real Madrid as a forward.
