1982 UCLA Bruins Softball Team
The 1982 UCLA Bruins softball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 1982 college softball season. The Bruins were coached by Sharron Backus, who led her eighth season. The Bruins played their home games at Sunset Field and finished with a record of 33–7–2. They competed in the Western Collegiate Athletic Association, where they finished second with a 15–4–1 record. The Bruins were invited to the 1982 NCAA Division I softball tournament, where they swept the Central Regional and then completed an undefeated run through the Women's College World Series to claim the first NCAA Women's College World Series Championship. The Bruins had earlier claimed an AIAW title in 1978. Sharron Backus
Sharron Backus (born February 12, 1946) is a former softball player and coach. She played as a shortstop and third baseman on seven Amateur Softball Association national championship teams from 1961 to 1975. She served as the head softball coach at UCLA from 1975 to 1997 and led her teams to nine national collegiate softball championships. At the time of her retirement in 1997, she was the winningest college softball coach in the history of the sport. Backus has been inducted into both the National Softball Hall of Fame and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Softball player Backus attended Cal State Fullerton and played for 15 years as a shortstop and third baseman in the Amateur Softball Association ("ASA") from 1961 to 1975. Seymour Smith Park
Seymour Smith Park is an urban park located at 68th and Harrison Streets in Omaha, Nebraska. Facilities The park has recreational athletic facilities including a baseball field, Association football pitch, football pitches, disc golf, tennis courts, soccer fields and a recreational skate park. The baseball field hosts American Legion Baseball and the UNO Mavericks. It also features a soap box derby track and a skeet shooting range. The park is located on the Big Papio Trail. Mayfair Park
William Hawrelak Park (or simply Hawrelak Park) is a park in Edmonton, Alberta. Formerly known as Mayfair Park, it was initially going to be developed into a 500-lot subdivision; however, when the Strathcona Land Syndicate forfeited their taxes the city obtained the title for the land in 1922. This land lay unused until 1954, when Mayor William Hawrelak proposed to create a riverside park in this area as it would “fit into the overall park development of the City along the lines of the zoo, and the golf courses and other picnic areas”. The digging of the man-made lakes began in 1959 and later was completed in 1964 but had few facilities. The official opening day of Mayfair Park was on Dominion Day, July 1, 1967.
