1981 Arizona Wildcats Baseball Team
The 1981 Arizona Wildcats baseball team represented the University of Arizona during the 1981 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Wildcats played their home games at Wildcat Field. The team was coached by Jerry Kindall in his 9th season at Arizona. The Wildcats finished 30–22 overall and placed 4th in the Pacific-10's Southern Division with an 14–16 record. Arizona failed to make the postseason for the 1st time since 1977. Previous season The Wildcats finished the 1980 season with a record of 45–21–1 and 17–13 in conference play, finishing tied for 1st in the "Six-Pac" (Pac-10 Southern). Jerry Kindall
Gerald Donald Kindall (May 27, 1935 – December 24, 2017) was an American professional baseball player and college baseball player and coach. He was primarily a second baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) who appeared in 742 games played over nine seasons for the Chicago Cubs (1956–58, 1960–61), Cleveland Indians (1962–64), and Minnesota Twins (1964–65). After his playing career, he became the head baseball coach of the University of Arizona Wildcats, winning 860 games and three College World Series (CWS) championships over 24 seasons (1973–1996). Kindall batted and threw right-handed and was listed as tall and . Kindall was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from Washington High School before attending the University of Minnesota. Dwight Bernard Taylor (born March 24, 1960) is a former professional baseball outfielder. He played during one season at the major league level for the Kansas City Royals. The UTEP Miners is the name given to the sports teams of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). They are informally referred to as the Miners, UTEP, or Texas–El Paso. UTEP was a member of the Western Athletic Conference from 1967 to 2005, when they joined Rice, Tulsa, and SMU in leaving the WAC for Conference USA.
