Pat Mills
Patrick Eamon Mills (born 1949) is an English comics writer and editor who, along with John Wagner, revitalised British boys' comics in the 1970s, and has remained a leading light in British comics ever since. He has been called "the godfather of British comics". His comics are notable for their violence and anti-authoritarianism. He is best known for creating '' 2000 AD'' and playing a major part in the development of '' Judge Dredd''. Biography Mills started his career as a sub-editor for D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd, where he met Wagner. In 1971 both left to go freelance, and were soon writing scripts for IPC's girls' and humour comics. After D.C. Thomson launched ''Warlord'', a successful war-themed weekly, Mills was asked in 1975 to develop a rival title for IPC. Based in the girls' comics department to avoid the attention of the staff of the boys' department, Mills, along with Wagner and Gerry Finley-Day, worked in secret to create '' Battle Picture Weekly''. Yoko Tsuno
''Yoko Tsuno'' is a comics album series created by the Belgian writer Roger Leloup published by Dupuis in '' Spirou'' magazine since its debut in 1970. Through thirty volumes, the series tell the adventures of Yoko Tsuno, a female electrical engineer of Japanese origin surrounded by her close friends, Vic Video and Pol Pitron (see Yoko Tsuno characters). Their adventures bring them to, among other places, Belgium (Bruges), Germany, Scotland, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia and also into outer space. The stories are heavily technology driven, with concepts like robot dragons ('' Le Dragon de Hong Kong''), suspended animation (''La Frontière de la vie''), time travel ('' La Spirale du temps'' and others), and even an alien species called the Vineans. ''Ric Hochet'' is a Franco-Belgian comics series created by Tibet (drawings) and André-Paul Duchâteau (scripts). It first appeared on March 30, 1955, in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Tintin''. Synopsis The series features the adventures of Ric Hochet, a reporter for the newspaper ''La Rafale'' in Paris. Characters ;Ric Hochet :A journalist from Paris with a strong sense of justice who takes huge risks to see a culprit brought to justice. Marzolino Tarantola
Marzolino Tarantola is the title character of an Italian comic series created by Bonvi. The comics debuted in 1979, published in the magazines ''Il Corriere dei Piccoli'' and ''TV Sorrisi e Canzoni''; at the same time a series of animation shorts was produced for the RAI TV-series ''Supergulp!''. The stories were later collected in two books published by editor Rizzoli Junior. Bonvi, pen name of Franco Bonvicini (31 March 1941 – 10 December 1995) was an Italian comic book artist, creator of the comic strips ''Sturmtruppen'' and ''Nick Carter (comics), Nick Carter''. Biography Bonvicini was born either in Parma or in Modena, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. The correct site is unknown, as his mother registered him in both places to obtain twice the amount of war-rationing Ration stamp, food stamps. The author hinted at this fact in one of his ''Sturmtruppen'' comic books, where he usually hid autobiographical notes inside the dark humour of the books. Jacques Martin (comics)
Jacques Martin (; 25 September 1921 – 21 January 2010) was a French comics artist and comic book creator. He was one of the classic artists of ''Tintin'' magazine, alongside Edgar P. Jacobs and Hergé, of whom he was a longtime collaborator. He is best known for his series '' Alix''. He was born in Strasbourg. Biography After pursuing engineering studies as a young man, Jacques Martin began in 1942 to draw his first comic stories. In 1946, following the end of the War, he travelled through Belgium in search of an editor for his work. Soon afterwards he met Georges Remi (aka Hergé) with whom he collaborated on several albums of ''The Adventures of Tintin'' (and more specifically on ''Tintin in Tibet'' and ''The Red Sea Sharks'') while working on his own albums. ''Alix'', or ''The Adventures of Alix'', is a Franco-Belgian comics series drawn in the ligne claire style by Jacques Martin. The stories revolve around a young Gallo-Roman man named Alix in the late Roman Republic. Although the series is renowned for its historical accuracy and stunning set detail, the hero has been known to wander into anachronistic situations up to two centuries out of his era. The stories unfold throughout the reaches of the Roman world, including the city of Rome, Gaul, the German frontier, Mesopotamia, Africa and Asia Minor. One voyage goes as far as China. ''Tintin'' (; ) was a weekly Belgian comics magazine of the second half of the 20th century. Subtitled ''"The Magazine for the Youth from 7 to 77"'', it was one of the major publications of the Franco-Belgian comics scene and published such notable series as ''Blake and Mortimer'', ''Alix'', and the principal title ''The Adventures of Tintin''. Originally published by Le Lombard, the first issue was released in 1946, and it ceased publication in 1993. ''Tintin'' magazine was part of an elaborate publishing scheme. The magazine's primary content focused on a new page or two from several forthcoming comic albums that had yet to be published as a whole, thus drawing weekly readers who could not bear to wait for entire albums. Luciano Secchi
Max Bunker, pen name of Luciano Massimiliano Secchi (born 24 August 1939), is an Italian comic book writer, and publisher, best known as the co-author of '' Alan Ford''. Bunker's career started in 1960 when he co-founded, together with his brother-in-law Andrea Corno, a publishing house focused on the production of comics called Editoriale Corno. In 1962 Bunker wrote a Western-style comic book, ''Maschera Nera'' (''Black Mask''). He went on to create more comics series in collaboration with Magnus (Roberto Raviola) such as '' Kriminal'' and ''Satanik'' and '' Maxmagnus''. Alfonso Font
Alfonso Font (born 28 August 1946) is a Spanish comic book artist. Biography Alfonso Font was born in Barcelona, Spain. He began his comics career in the 1960s as apprentice in the local Editorial Bruguera studio, working mostly at western, war, mystery and horror series, especially for foreign publishers. In the 1970s he worked for the British publisher Fleetway to several comics, in particular war series such as ''Black Max''; later he would also work for American publishers Warren Publishing and Skywald. During the latter decade, he shortly moved to Paris, where he collaborated with the magazine '' Pif gadget'' for which, among the others, he created the science fiction series '' Les Robinsons de la terre (The Robinsons of Earth)''.
