1979 European Championship For F2 Drivers Rd.8
The 14th Rhein-Pokalrennen (Rhine-Cup Race), was the Round Eight of the 1979 European Championship for F2 Drivers. This was the second time F2 visited the Hockenheimring, during the 1979 season, with the race on 10 June. Report Entry A total of 30 F2 cars were entered for the event, however just 24 took part in qualifying. As with previous F2 events at Hockenheim, the race would be run over two heats, and the result aggregated to decide the winner. Qualifying Stephen South took pole position for the Project Four Racing – ICI Racing Team, in his March- BMW 792, for both Heats. Race The final was held over 40 laps of the Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit, split into two 20 lap heats. Hockenheimring
The Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg () is a motor racing circuit situated in the Rhine valley near the town of Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located on the Bertha Benz Memorial Route. Amongst other motor racing events, it has hosted the German Grand Prix, most recently in 2019. The circuit has very little differences in elevation. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license. History 1932–1938 Originally called "Dreieckskurs" (triangle course), the Hockenheimring was built in 1932. The man behind it is Ernst Christ, a young timekeeper who felt that a racing track should be built in his hometown of Hockenheim. Giancarlo Minardi (born 18 September 1947) is the founder and managing director of the now-defunct Minardi Formula One team. Early life Minardi was born in Faenza (Ravenna), Italy and has spent his life with cars. As a young boy, his family managed a Fiat dealership and an Agip fuel station, and currently manages Iveco and Selenia dealerships. His father, Giovanni Minardi, who died when Giancarlo was young, was also heavily involved in motor racing. Miguel Ángel Guerra (born 31 August 1953 in Buenos Aires) is a former racing driver from Argentina. He participated in four Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on 15 March 1981. He qualified for only one of these, the 1981 San Marino Grand Prix, in which his Osella was hit by the March of Eliseo Salazar on the first lap. Siegfried Stohr (born 10 October 1952) is a former racing driver from Italy. He participated in 13 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 15 March 1981. He scored no championship points. Biography Stohr started in the Italian Formula Italia class in 1976 finishing second in the championship. In 1977 he won the series. Stohr won the Italian Formula Three Championship in 1978 driving a Chevron and progressed to Formula two for 1979 where he took second places at Vallelunga and Pau, with a Chevron before switching with less success to a March. Alan Docking Racing (ADR) is a motor racing team based in Silverstone, United Kingdom. The team was formed in 1975 by Australian Alan Docking. Huub Rothengatter
Hubertus (Huub) Rothengatter (born 8 October 1954) is a former racing driver from the Netherlands. He participated in 30 Formula One (F1) Grands Prix, debuting on 17 June 1984. He scored no championship points. He drove for Spirit, Osella and Zakspeed, and his drives all either started or became available midseason. He tried to get Dutch sponsors in various ways, such as by putting a one-page advertisement in ''De Telegraaf'' newspaper. Reputedly, when Niki Lauda was asked about him, he referred to him as "rattengott" – literally "God of the rats". Teodorico Fabi (born 9 March 1955) is an Italian former racing driver. He competed in Formula One and sports car racing, and claimed pole position in his rookie year at the 1983 Indianapolis 500. Teo is the older brother of former Formula One driver Corrado Fabi. At the 1984 Indianapolis 500, Fabi became the last active Formula One driver to race at the event until Fernando Alonso in 2017. Tiga Race Cars Ltd. was a British auto racing constructor and team. The company was founded in 1974 by two former Formula 1 drivers, Australian Tim Schenken and New Zealander Howden Ganley. The company's name was formed by the first two letters of Tim and Ganley. Eje Elgh (born 15 June 1953) is a Swedish racing driver and television reporter. He currently works as an expert commentator for Formula One in Sweden together with Janne Blomqvist. The two have worked together as Formula One commentators for a long time, first for TV4 and then for Viasat Motor when they took over the Formula One broadcasting in Sweden.
