The 1978 Tour de Romandie was the 32nd edition of the Tour de Romandie cycle race and was held from 2 May to 7 May 1978. The race started in Geneva and finished in Thyon. Johan Van Der Velde
Johan van der Velde (born 12 December 1956 in Rijsbergen) is a former Netherlands, Dutch cycle sport, cyclist. In the 1980 Tour de France, he won the young rider classification in the Tour de France, young rider classification, also placing 12th in the general classification that year. He had been a racing cyclist for only a year. In the 1981 Tour de France, he took first place on the second and 21st stages, finishing 12th overall for the second year. He rode with TI–Raleigh in the Tour de France from 1979 to 1983 and the Panasonic (cycling team), Panasonic team where he won Stage 5 and wore the Yellow Jersey for two days in the 1986 Tour de France. Fausto Bertoglio
Fausto Bertoglio (born 13 January 1949) is a retired Italian professional road bicycle racer. The highlight of his career was his overall win in the 1975 Giro d'Italia with the Jollj Ceramica team. It was the first Giro d'Italia victory on a Pinarello bicycle frameset. He also won the 1975 edition of the Volta a Catalunya. He finished third in the 1976 Giro d'Italia and ninth in the 1976 Tour de France. Mariano Martínez (born 20 September 1948 in Burgos) is a French former professional road racing cyclist. He won the King of the Mountains competition in 1978 Tour de France. Although he was born in Spain, he became a naturalized French citizen in 1963. Hennie Kuiper
Hendrikus Andreas "Hennie" Kuiper (born 3 February 1949) is a Dutch former professional road racing cyclist. His career includes a gold medal in the Olympic road race at Munich in 1972, becoming world professional road race champion in 1975, as well as winning four of the five "Monument" classics. He rode the Tour de France 12 times, finishing second twice and winning the stage to Alpe d'Huez on two occasions. Kuiper, Ercole Baldini and Paolo Bettini are the only riders to have won both the Olympic road race and the world professional road race. Biography Kuiper was born in Denekamp, in Overijssel province. His serious introduction to the bicycle was to and from school in Enschede. He started participating in junior races from 14 and from 19 to 23 he won 39 times as an amateur. Thyon
Thyon (also known as ''Thyon 2000'') is a purpose-built ski resort in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Valais. The resort is situated in the central part of the canton, in the region of Sion, and is associated with the village of Les Collons. It forms part of the "4 Valleys" interlinked ski area, which together includes Thyon, Veysonnaz, Haute-Nendaz, Verbier and La Tzoumaz. The ski pistes from Thyon and Veysonnaz effectively constitute a large, single integrated ski area, and connect with the rest of the "4 Valleys" area. Thyon lies at a height of 2,095 metres above sea level, on the ridge descending from Mont Rouge. The 'Thyon 2000' complex was constructed in the 1970s.
