1977–78 Huddersfield Town A.F.C. Season
Huddersfield Town's 1977–78 campaign is statistically Huddersfield Town's worst season since entering the Football League in 1910. Town finished 11th in the 4th Division. Under John Haselden and then Tom Johnston Town would stay in the 4th Division for a fourth successive season. Squad at the start of the season Review After two seasons in the basement division of the Football League, some Town fans were wondering if Town were ever going to get back into at least the Third Division. Town reverted to their blue and white striped kit, after two years in the all-blue kit. But, at the start of the season, it seemed to be a curse, with Town winning none of their first eight matches, which unsurprisingly saw John Haselden get demoted to coach, which saw Tom Johnston return to the hotseat at Leeds Road for a record third time. Huddersfield Town A
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. Northampton () is a market town and civil parish in the East Midlands of England, on the River Nene, north-west of London and south-east of Birmingham. Arnie Sidebottom
Arnold "Arnie" Sidebottom (born 1 April 1954) is an English former footballer and cricketer, who played cricket for Yorkshire and played one Test match for England. Football Sidebottom was born in Shawlands, Barnsley, Yorkshire, and started off as a professional footballer, playing as a central defender. He joined Manchester United as an amateur in January 1971, and turned professional in 1972. He replaced the injured Jim Holton during the 1974–75 season in the Second Division. He helped United win the Second Division Championship in that season, but was transferred in January 1976 to Huddersfield Town, after making twenty appearances for United. He later played for Halifax Town. In 2007, he was voted in at Number 5 in '' The Times'' poll of the "50 Worst footballers (to grace the top division)". Malcolm Brown (English Footballer)
Malcolm Brown (born 13 December 1956) is a former professional footballer who made more than 500 appearances in the Football League in the 1970s and 1980s. He played as a right back for Bury, Huddersfield Town, where he spent the majority of his career, Newcastle United, Rochdale and Stockport County. Brown began his career as an apprentice at Bury, before moving to Huddersfield Town in 1977, where he helped the club to two promotions during Mick Buxton's reign as manager. He eventually left for Newcastle United in 1983, but missed the whole of the 1983–84 promotion season because of injury. He returned to Huddersfield in 1985 for another four seasons, playing more than 400 games for the club in all. Football League Fourth Division
The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season. Whilst the division disappeared in name in 1992, the 4th tier of English football continued as the Football League Third Division, and later became known as Football League Two. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League.
