1972 Formula One Season
The 1972 Formula One season was the 26th season of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA's Formula One motor racing. It featured the 23rd List of Formula One World Drivers' Champions, World Championship of Drivers, the 15th List of Formula One World Constructors' Champions, International Cup for F1 Manufacturers, and numerous non-championship Formula One races. The World Championship commenced on 23 January and ended on 8 October after twelve races. Emerson Fittipaldi, driving for Team Lotus, Lotus, became the youngest World Champion to date at 25 years. Motor Racing Developments Ltd., commonly known as Brabham ( ), was a British race car, racing car manufacturer and Formula One racing team. It was founded in 1960 by the Australian driver Jack Brabham and the British-Australian designer Ron Tauranac. Reine Wisell
Reine Tore Leif Wisell (30 September 1941 – 20 March 2022) was a Swedish racing driver. He participated in 23 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 4 October 1970. He achieved one podium, and scored a total of 13 championship points. Career Wisell won the Swedish Formula Three Championship in 1967. In 1970 he entered Formula One with Team Lotus as a late-season replacement for John Miles, who had departed after team leader Jochen Rindt had been killed at Monza on 5 September. Wisell’s debut was in October at the 1970 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. Howden Ganley
James Howden Ganley (born 24 December 1941) is a former racing driver from New Zealand. From 1971 to 1974 he participated in 41 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix. He placed 4th twice and scored points 5 times for a total of 10 championship points (only the top 6 places scored points). He also participated in numerous non-Championship Formula One races. Personal and early life When he was thirteen years old, he attended the 1955 New Zealand Grand Prix at Ardmore which inspired him and provided him with an impetus to follow a career in racing. BRM P180
The BRM P180 was a Formula One racing car, built by British Racing Motors, BRM and designed by Tony Southgate which raced in the 1972 Formula One season. It was powered by a BRM 3.0-litre V12 engine. One of the main features of the P180 was that the radiators had moved to the rear of the car, allowing the nose of the car to be very wide and flat. The BRM P153 was a Formula One racing car designed by Tony Southgate for the British Racing Motors team, which raced in the , and 1972 Formula One seasons. It was powered by a 3.0-litre V12 engine. Its best result was victory at the 1970 Belgian Grand Prix, where Pedro Rodríguez beat the second-placed March of Chris Amon by just 1.1 seconds. Carlos Alberto "Lole" Reutemann (12 April 1942 – 7 July 2021) was an Argentine racing driver and politician, who competed in Formula One from to and served as the Governor of Santa Fe from 1999 to 2003. A V8 engine is an eight- cylinder piston engine in which two banks of four cylinders share a common crankshaft and are arranged in a V configuration. Origins The first known V8 was the Antoinette, designed by Léon Levavasseur, and built in 1904 by the French Antoinette company for use in speedboat racing, cars, and later, airplanes. Cosworth DFV
The DFV is an internal combustion engine that was originally produced by Cosworth for Formula One motor racing. The name is an abbreviation of ''Double Four Valve'', the engine being a V8 development of the earlier four-cylinder FVA, which had four valves per cylinder. Its development in 1967 for Colin Chapman's Team Lotus was sponsored and funded by major American automotive manufacturer Ford. For many years it was the dominant engine in Formula One, with the whole engine program funded by Ford's European division, Ford Europe and engines badged as "Ford" for Formula One championship races.
