1971–72 NFL Playoffs
The National Football League playoffs for the 1971 season began on December 25, 1971. The postseason tournament concluded with the Dallas Cowboys defeating the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI, 24–3, on January 16, 1972, at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. Like the previous NFL seasons, the home teams in the playoffs were decided based on a yearly divisional rotation, excluding the wild card teams which would always play on the road. It was the first time that the NFL scheduled games on Christmas Day, a decision that drew considerable criticism. 1971 NFL Season
The 1971 NFL season was the 52nd regular season of the National Football League. The Boston Patriots changed their name to New England Patriots to widen their appeal to the entire New England region after moving to their new stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, located between Boston and Providence, Rhode Island. The season ended with Super Bowl VI when the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. Duane Thomas
Duane Julius Thomas (June 21, 1947 – August 4, 2024) was an American professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins. He played college football for the West Texas State Buffaloes. Early life Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Thomas was an exceptional running back at Lincoln High School in the mid-1960s. He continued his success at West Texas State University in Canyon, playing fullback alongside Mercury Morris, while running through defenses for Joe Kerbel's teams. After a freshman year with just 10 carries for 42 yards, he led the country with 7.2 yards per carry on still-limited duty his sophomore season (83 carries for 596 yards). The NFC and its counterpart, the American Football Conference (AFC), each have 16 teams organized into four divisions. ''NFL on NBC'' is an American television sports presentation show broadcast by NBC. It aired from October 22, 1939 to January 25, 1998. The show returned since August 6, 2006. The branding is used for the presentation of the National Football League. NBC had sporadically carried NFL games as early as 1939, including the championship and Pro Bowl through the 1950s and early 1960s. Beginning in 1965, NBC signed an agreement to carry the American Football League (AFL)'s telecasts, which carried over with the American Football Conference (AFC) when the AFL merged with the NFL.
