1966 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship
The 1966 NCAA soccer tournament was the eighth annual tournament organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the national champion of men's college soccer among its members in the United States. The tournament final was played at the California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, California on December 3. San Francisco won their first title, defeating Long Island in the final, 5–2. The most outstanding offensive player of the tournament was Sandor Hites of San Francisco. California Memorial Stadium also known simply and commonly as Memorial Stadium is an outdoor college football stadium on the west coast of the United States, located on the campus of the University of California in Berkeley, California. It is the home field for the California Golden Bears of the Pac-12 Conference. Colgate Raiders Men's Soccer
The Colgate Raiders are the athletic teams that represent Colgate University. The teams include men and women's basketball, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, swimming & diving, track and field and tennis. Men's sports include golf and football. The 1966 NAIA Soccer Championship was the eighth annual tournament held by the NAIA to determine the national champion of men's college soccer among its members in the United States. Quincy (IL) defeated two-time defending champions Trenton State in the final, 6–1, to claim the Hawks' first NAIA national title. Golden Goal
The golden goal or golden point is a rule used in association football, lacrosse, field hockey, and ice hockey to decide the winner of a match (typically a knock-out match) in which scores are equal at the end of normal time. It is a type of sudden death. Under this rule, the game ends when a goal or point is scored; the team that scores that goal or point during extra time is the winner. Introduced formally in 1993, though with some history before that, the rule ceased to apply to most FIFA-authorized football games in 2004. The similar silver goal supplemented the golden goal between 2002 and 2004. The golden goal used to be played in NCAA matches up to 2021 but is still used in FIH sanctioned field hockey games. West Virginia Mountaineers Men's Soccer
The West Virginia Mountaineers men's soccer team is the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I soccer team of West Virginia University (WVU). Beginning with the 2012 season, the team was an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference because WVU is the only school in its primary conference, the Big 12 Conference, that has a varsity men's soccer team. For the 2022 season, West Virginia joined in-state rival Marshall in the Sun Belt Conference, and the Mountain State Derby will become an annual conference game. The Temple Owls men's soccer program represents Temple University in all NCAA Division I men's college soccer competitions. Founded in 1926, the Owls compete in the American Athletic Conference.
