1963 NAIA World Series
The 1963 NAIA World Series was the seventh annual tournament hosted by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to determine the national champion of baseball among its member colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The tournament was played at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri. Sam Houston State (27-8) defeated Grambling (28-4) in the championship series, 2–1, to win the Bearkats' first NAIA World Series. Sam Houston State shortstop Jimmy Dodd was named tournament MVP. Double Elimination
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and '' repechage'') after the first round. The Lewis Flyers are the athletic teams that represent Lewis University, located in Romeoville (a suburb of Chicago), Illinois, United States, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) for most of its sports since the 1980–81 academic year; while its men's volleyball team compete in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA). The Winona State Warriors are the athletic teams of Winona State University, located in Winona, Minnesota. Mayville State University (MSU or MaSU) is a public university in Mayville, North Dakota. It is part of the North Dakota University System. History Founded as a normal school by provision of the North Dakota Constitution in 1889, Mayville State was granted and organized by the first Legislative Assembly. Classes began in 1889, with funds for the current Old Main a building provided by the Second Legislative Assembly in early 1891, where classes were initially held in 1894. California Vulcans Baseball
The California Vulcans are the intercollegiate sports teams and players that represent Pennsylvania Western University California (PennWest California; known before July 2022 as California University of Pennsylvania), located in California, Pennsylvania. The Vulcans participate in the NCAA Division II in all sports and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in most sports. The school colors are Red and Black. The East Carolina Pirates baseball team is an intercollegiate baseball team representing East Carolina University in NCAA Division I college baseball and participates as a full member of the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates have made regular appearances in the NCAA Tournament. As of 2021, they have the most NCAA tournament appearances without a College World Series appearance. Phil Welch Stadium is a baseball stadium in St Joseph, Missouri. It originally opened in 1939 as the home of the minor league St. Joseph Saints. It has a seating capacity of 3,600 and is located at 2600 SW Parkway in St. Joseph. History Phil Welch Stadium opened as home of the St. Joseph Saints in 1939. The Saints had various other monikers and were a member of the Western Association (1939-1941, 1946-1951, 1953-1954).
