The 1962 Washington Huskies football team was an American football team that represented the University of Washington during the 1962 NCAA University Division football season. In its sixth season under head coach Jim Owens, the team compiled a 7–1–2 record, finished second in the Athletic Association of Western Universities, and outscored its opponents 208 to 82. Ed Peasley
Ed Peasley (born ) is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Northern Arizona University from 1971 to 1974. High school Peasley attended Mendota Township High School in Mendota, Illinois. College career Peasley initially attended Compton Junior College, earning Little All-American honors at end and played in the Junior Rose Bowl in 1956. Peasley was a letterman for the Washington Huskies at end from 1957 to 1959. Coaching career Peasley began his coaching career at Washington, coaching as an assistant from 1961 to 1965. Peasley then coached at Stanford in a variety of roles from 1966 to 1970. Northern Arizona University gave Peasley a head coaching role, where he served from 1971 to 1974, compiling a 15–35 record. Thurmon Jones
Thurmon Lee "Tugboat" Jones (April 6, 1918 – January 16, 1988) was an American football player and coach. For more than 20 years he coached high school football in the state of Texas. A native of Wilson, Oklahoma, Jones attended Abilene Christian University, where he played running back and defensive back. In 1941 he joined the NFL's Brooklyn Dodgers, but did not see much playing time and eventually finished his playing career after the 1942 NFL season; instead he pursued a coaching career. In 1943 he became head coach at Electra, a small community near Wichita Falls, Texas. Under his guidance, Electra was able to shut down Wichita Falls, one of the state's powerhouses at the time, with an obviously inferior team. So in 1944, when Wichita Falls coach Ted Jeffries left the school for Lamar College, Jones was hired as his successor. The Apple Cup is an American college football rivalry game between the University of Washington Huskies and Washington State University Cougars, the two largest universities in the state of Washington. Both were members of the Pac-12 Conference until 2024. First played in 1900, , the matchup was traditionally the final game of the regular season for both teams and generally took place on the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving. Joe Albi Stadium was an outdoor multi-purpose stadium in Spokane, Washington, United States. It was located in the northwest part of the city, just east of the Spokane River. The stadium was primarily used for high school football, as a secondary home field for the Washington State Cougars, and for minor league soccer. The 1962 Washington State Cougars football team was an American football team that represented Washington State University in the Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU, Big Six) during the 1962 NCAA University Division football season. In their seventh season under head coach Jim Sutherland, the Cougars compiled a 5–4–1 record (1–1 in AAWU, third), and outscored their opponents 213 to 167.
