The European section of the 1962 FIFA World Cup qualification functioned as the qualifiers for the 1962 World Cup, which took place in Chile. Nahum Stelmach
Nahum Stelmach (; – ) was an Israeli footballer and manager. Biography Stelmach was born in Petah Tikva, Mandate Palestine, British Mandate of Palestine (now Israel), to a Jewish family. He was chosen third by ''Yediot Aharonots greatest Israeli footballers. He made a name for himself as the leader of Hapoel Petah Tikva F.C., Hapoel Petah Tikva. At the height of his career in Hapoel Petah Tikva, Stelmach received offers to sign for Arsenal F.C., Arsenal and Fenerbahçe but declined due to his loyalty to the team. He led his team to five national championships, four of them consecutive. His most recognizable attribute was the quality of his headers, with which he scored most of his international goals. Tomáš Pospíchal (26 June 1936 – 21 October 2003) was a Czech football player. Pospíchal played for several clubs, including TJ Vítkovice (1952–1955), Baník Ostrava (1957–1964), Sparta Prague (1964–1968) and FC Rouen (1968–1971). He played for Czechoslovakia national team (26 matches and 8 goals), and was a participant at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, where he played in the last three matches. After ending his career as a player he started coaching. Charles Antenen (3 November 1929 – 20 May 2000) was a Swiss football player, who was nicknamed ''Kiki''. Yngve Brodd
Rolf Yngve Brodd (9 June 1930 – 23 September 2016) was a Swedish professional footballer who played as a striker. He began his career with Fritsla IF and went on to represent Örebro SK, Toulouse, and Sochaux before retiring at IFK Göteborg in 1964. A full international from 1952 to 1963, he won 20 caps and scored 12 goals for the Sweden national team and was part of the Sweden squad that won bronze at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Club career Brodd began his club career with Fritsla IF, and signed for Örebro SK after having scored 32 goals in 33 games in the lower divisions. While at Örebro, he scored 7 goals in 19 games before moving to France where he represented Toulouse and Sochaux between 1953 and 1962. Adolf Scherer
Adolf Scherer (5 May 1938 – 22 July 2023) was a Slovak footballer who played as a striker. He was of Carpathian German descent. He played 36 games and scored 22 goals for the Czechoslovakia national team. Scherer represented Czechoslovakia at the 1960 European Nations' Cup and 1958 FIFA World Cup, where he did not play any match. In the 1962 FIFA World Cup, he again played for the Czechoslovak national team where he proved himself to be a valuable player. They made it to the final match against Brazil, and Scherer assisted Josef Masopust in Czechoslovakia's first and only goal of the game. Brazil ultimately won the match, subsequently scoring three more. The 1962 FIFA World Cup CAF–UEFA qualification play-off was a two-legged home-and-away tie between the winners of the CAF final round, Morocco, and the winners of the UEFA Group 9 second round, Spain. The matches were played on 12 and 23 November 1961 in Casablanca and Madrid, respectively. Spain won the series after beating Morocco in both matches (1–0 in Casablanca and 3–2 in Madrid), and therefore qualified for the World Cup.
