WBQB
WBQB (101.5 FM, "B101.5") is a hot adult contemporary–formatted radio station in Fredericksburg, Virginia, serving Central Virginia with a primary focus of Spotsylvania County. WBQB is owned and operated by Centennial Broadcasting. The studio and offices are located on Mimosa Street in Fredericksburg. History On May 15, 1960, AM radio station WFVA signed on WFVA-FM as an FM sister station simulcasting the same programming. Both stations were owned by Mid-Atlantic Network Inc. On August 7, 1989, WFVA was authorized by the FCC to change its callsign to WBQB. The change in call sign coincided with the breaking of a years-long simulcast on the FM frequency and the reformatting of the renamed WBQB to be less of a full-service middle-of-the-road station and target the 25–44 age group. Steven L. Scully (born September 17, 1960) is an American broadcast journalist. He is the host of "The Briefing with Steve Scully" on SiriusXM POTUS 124 and contributor to Hill.com & Senior Vice President at the Bipartisan Policy Center. In July 2024, he was named a Senior Fellow at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism - Center on Communications Leadership and Policy. In January 2025 he also joined the Former Members of Congress as a Senior Fellow, working to bridge the political divide in Washington within Congress. Rapping
Rapping (also rhyming, flowing, spitting, emceeing, or MCing) is an artistic form of vocal delivery and emotive expression that incorporates " rhyme, rhythmic speech, and ommonlystreet vernacular". It is usually performed over a backing beat or musical accompaniment. The components of rap include "content" (what is being said, e.g., lyrics), "flow" ( rhythm, rhyme), and "delivery" ( cadence, tone). Rap differs from spoken-word poetry in that it is usually performed off-time to musical accompaniment. It also differs from singing, which varies in pitch and does not always include words. Because they do not rely on pitch inflection, some rap artists may play with timbre or other vocal qualities. Carlton Douglas Ridenhour (born August 1, 1960), known professionally as Chuck D, is an American rapper, best known as the leader and frontman of the hip hop group Public Enemy, which he co-founded in 1985 with Flavor Flav. Chuck D is also a member of the rock supergroup Prophets of Rage. He has released several solo albums, most notably '' Autobiography of Mistachuck'' (1996). His work with Public Enemy helped create politically and socially conscious hip hop music in the mid-1980s. '' The Source'' ranked him at No. 12 on its list of the Top 50 Hip-Hop Lyricists of All Time. Anne MacKenzie (journalist)
Anne Erica Isobel Mackenzie is a former BBC political and current affairs presenter. Mackenzie worked as a newscaster between 1981 and 1997. She started her career with Grampian TV, in Aberdeen, before joining BBC Scotland in 1995. She became a political and current affairs presenter in 1998, anchoring several BBC network programmes. Mackenzie was also part of the '' Newsnight Scotland'' team, with BBC Scotland, from its launch in October 1999 to July 2007. Delilah Rene Luke (born February 15, 1960) is an American radio personality, author, and songwriter, best known as the host of a nationally syndicated nightly U.S. radio song request and dedication program, with an estimated eight million listeners. She first aired in the Seattle market as Delilah Rene, though she is now known simply as Delilah. Liz Kershaw
Elizabeth Marguerita Mary Kershaw (born 30 July 1958) is an English radio broadcaster. She is one of the longest serving female national radio DJs in the UK, celebrating 30 years on national BBC Radio in 2017. Career After graduating from the University of Leeds, Liz Kershaw began her media career in Leeds with a music column in the '' Yorkshire Post''. Her brother is fellow broadcaster Andy Kershaw. Her first radio show was in 1981 on Radio Aire where her brother worked for a time. In 1985 she moved to BBC Radio Leeds to present a weekly rock show showcasing local bands. Ma Perkins
''Ma Perkins'' (sometimes called ''Oxydol's Own Ma Perkins'') is an American radio soap opera that was heard on NBC from 1933 to 1949 and on CBS from 1942 to 1960. It was also broadcast in Canada, and Radio Luxembourg carried it in Europe. The program began on WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio, where it was broadcast from August 14, 1933 to December 1, 1933. Its network debut occurred on NBC on December 4, 1933. Between 1942 and 1949, the show was heard simultaneously on both networks. During part of its run on NBC, that network's coverage was augmented by use of transcriptions. Beginning April 1, 1935, nine stations broadcast the transcriptions. Oxydol dropped its sponsorship in 1956. The program continued with various sponsors until 1960. ''Louisiana Hayride'' is a radio and later television country music show that was broadcast from the Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana; during its heyday from 1948 to 1960, it helped to launch the careers of some of the greatest names in American Country music, country and Western (genre), western music.
