1958 European Cup Final
The 1958 European Cup Final was a football match which took place at Heysel Stadium in Brussels, Belgium on 28 May 1958. It was contested by Real Madrid of Spain and Milan of Italy. Real Madrid won 3–2 after extra time to claim their third European Cup in a row. After the match, the Real Madrid players were presented with their winners' medals by a 23-year-old Albert II of Belgium. 1957–58 European Cup
The 1957–58 European Cup was the third season of the European Cup, Europe's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Real Madrid, who beat Milan 3–2 in the final, following a 2–2 draw after 90 minutes. This was Real Madrid's third European Cup title in a row. However, the 1957–58 season was marred by the air disaster in Munich, when eight Manchester United players died on their way home from Belgrade, after a 3–3 draw in the quarter-final second leg with Red Star Belgrade. The English champions were ultimately defeated in the semi-finals by the eventual runners-up, A.C. Milan of Italy, after being highly touted to win the competition and dominate European football for many years like Real Madrid before them, with the “ Busby Babes” having an average age of only 22. Rafael Lesmes
Rafael Lesmes Bobed (9 November 1926 – 8 October 2012) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. Club career Lesmes was born in Ceuta. Over 12 La Liga seasons, he played for Real Valladolid (two spells) and Real Madrid, appearing in 263 games in the competition. He began his career with local Atlético Tetuán, and retired in 1962 at the age of 35. With Real Madrid, Lesmes was part of the team that won five consecutive European Cups. International career Lesmes was selected for Spain's 1950 FIFA World Cup squad as an uncapped member. He would have to wait nearly five years to make his debut, however, appearing in a 1–2 friendly loss to France on 17 March 1955, in Madrid. Ángel Atienza Landeta (16 March 1931 – 23 August 2015 in Madrid) was a Spanish artist and retired footballer who played as a defender for Real Madrid, with whom he won the inaugural European Cup. Football career Atienza was born in the Spanish capital of Madrid and retired from professional football on 1 July 1960. Juan Alberto "Pepe" Schiaffino Villano (; 28 July 1925 – 13 November 2002) was an Italian-Uruguayan football player who played as an attacking midfielder or forward. A highly skilful and creative playmaker, at club level, he played for CA Peñarol in Uruguay, and for A.C. Milan, and Roma in Italy. Francisco "Paco" Gento López (21 October 1933 – 18 January 2022) was a Spanish footballer who played as an outside left. He was voted by IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics) as the greatest Spanish footballer and 30th greatest world footballer of the 20th century. Gento began his career at Racing Santander in 1952 and moved to Real Madrid the following season. José Héctor Rial Laguía (14 October 1928 – 24 February 1991) was a footballer who played as a forward for Real Madrid between 1954 and 1961, and was part of the team that won five consecutive European Cups. He played professional football in Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain, France and Chile. He was born and raised in Argentina, but represented the Spain national team on five occasions.
