1958 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1958 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 70th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 26 January 1958. The championship began on 23 March 1958 and ended on 21 September 1958. Sarsfields entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Glen Rovers in the semi-final. The final was played on 21 September 1958 at the Athletic Grounds in Cork, between Glen Rovers and St. Finbarr's, in what was their sixth ever meeting in the final and a first in three years. Glen Rovers won the match by 4–06 to 3–05 to claim their 16th championship title overall and a first title in four years. Christy Ring was the championship's top scorer with 7–11. UCC is a football and hurling club associated with University College Cork. UCC teams play in the Cork Senior Football Championship and Cork Senior Hurling Championship as well as the two main third-level competitions namely the Sigerson Cup in football, the Fitzgibbon Cup in hurling and the Ashbourne Cup in camogie. Carrigtwohill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Mardyke (UCC)
The Mardyke, also referred as the Mardyke Sports Ground, is the main sports campus of University College Cork (UCC), located at the western end of the Mardyke area near Cork city centre. The grounds and fitness facilities used by sports team representing, the general student body, and members of the public. Outdoors, there are floodlit grass and all-weather pitches, used for soccer, rugby union, Gaelic games, and hockey. Kayakers train in the adjacent North channel of the River Lee. Na Piarsaigh Hurling and Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Fair Hill, Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the Seandún Board and fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Located in the Fair Hill area on the northside of Cork, Na Piarsaigh Hurling and Football Club was founded by a group of North Monastery students in 1943. The club is named in honour of Pádraig Pearse, to reflect the nationalist ideals of the club and its members. Ballinhassig () is a village in County Cork, Ireland, situated south of Cork City just off the N71 Bandon road and near the source of the River Owenabue (''Abhainn Bui'', meaning "Yellow River"). Traditionally an agricultural area, Ballinhassig has seen some growth as a commuter area, being close to Cork city. Ballinhassig GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Ballinhassig, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the Carrigdhoun Board and fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Located in the village of Ballinhassig, about 10km from Cork, Ballinhassig GAA Club was founded in 1886. The new club found it difficult to field teams and sometimes joined with nearby Ballygarvan GAA Club as Owenabue Rovers, before eventually disbanding. Muskerry GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division located in the middle region of County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA County Board. The division includes clubs from areas to the west of Cork city stretching to the county bounds with Kerry. Its name is derived from the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Múscraige which, following the Norman conquest, now encompasses the baronies of Muskerry West and Muskerry East. Carrigdhoun GAA is one of the eight baronies or Gaelic Athletic Association divisions that make up Cork. The division is made up of eleven Gaelic Athletic Association teams, making it one of the smaller divisions. The division is also known as the South East division. It extends from just south of Cork city down to Ballinspittle in the south of the county.
