The Peru First Division (; ''First Division'') —known as Liga 1 Betsson for sponsorship reasons and officially as Liga 1 — is the top flight of association football in Peru. It has been referred to as Torneo Descentralizado since 1966, when the first teams residing outside the Lima Province, Lima and Callao provinces were invited to compete in the 1912 Liga Peruana de Football, inaugural league national competition. The main sponsor is the Spanish telecommunications brand Movistar. There are 20 teams in the division of a league that operates on a system of promotion and relegation determined at the end of the season with the Segunda División Peruana, Segunda División and the Copa Perú. Ciclista Lima Association is a Peruvian football club, playing in the city of Lima. It is the second oldest club in Peru. The club was founded 1896 and plays in the Copa Perú, which is the third division of the Peruvian league. History The club was the 1944, 1946, 1949, and 1993 Segunda División Peruana champion. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. Club Universitario de Deportes, popularly known as Universitario or simply as La "U", is a Peruvian football club located in Lima. The club was founded in 1924 under the name Federación Universitaria by students of the National University of San Marcos but was forced to rename in 1931. Since 1928, the club competes in the top tier of Peruvian football, the Torneo Descentralizado. In 2000, they opened the 85,000-capacity stadium Estadio Monumental, currently the largest stadium in Peru and 5th largest in South America, retiring their smaller Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernández. Mariscal Sucre is a Peruvian football club, located in the city of La Victoria, Lima. The club was founded with the name of Sucre FC and was promoted to Peruvian Primera División in 1933, later was renamed Mariscal Sucre de Deportes in 1951. The club won the national tournament in 1944 and 1953. In the 1968 Torneo Descentralizado, Mariscal Sucre was relegated when Centro Iqueño defeated them in a relegation playoff, and it was their last appearance in the Peruvian Primera Division. After the disappearance of the Peruvian Segunda División in 1973, the club played in the Liga Mayor de Fútbol de Lima in 1974 but did not get promotion to the Peruvian Primera División. Rímac District
Rímac is a district in the Lima Province, Peru. It lies directly to the north of downtown Lima, to which it is connected by six bridges over the Rímac River. The district also borders the Independencia, San Martín de Porres, and San Juan de Lurigancho districts. Club Sporting Cristal S.A. is a Peruvian sports club located in the city of Lima, best known for its football team. It was founded on 13 December 1955 in the Rímac district by engineer Richard Bentín Mujica and his wife Esther Grande de Bentín, stockholders of the Peruvian brewery Backus and Johnston. The club and the brewery have been closely linked since its inception, and it is for this reason that it is popularly known as ''los Cerveceros'' ("the brewers").
