The Marconi Company acquire the radio station facility at Ballybunion, a small seaside town in County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland, soon after the end of the First World War. Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). Stations are often affiliated with a radio network which provides content in a common radio format, either in broadcast syndication or simulcast or both. CINW
CINW was the final call sign used by an English language AM radio station in Montreal, Quebec, which, along with French-language sister station CINF, ceased operations at 7:00 p.m. ET on January 29, 2010. Owned and operated by Corus Quebec, it broadcast on 940 kHz with a full-time power of 50,000 watts as a clear channel, Class A station, using a slightly directional antenna designed to improve reception in downtown Montreal. Due to its heritage, the station is generally considered to be Canada's first and oldest broadcasting station, as well as one of the first in the world. Edwin Newman
Edwin Harold Newman (January 25, 1919 – August 13, 2010) was an American newscaster, journalist, and author. After beginning his career with the wire services and serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Newman worked in radio for CBS News. He is known for a 23-year career in television news with the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), from 1961 to 1984. Early life and education Newman was born on January 25, 1919, in New York City to Myron, a credit manager, and Rose (née Parker) Newman. His older brother was M.W. Newman, a longtime reporter for the ''Chicago Daily News''. His grandparents were all Russian-Jewish immigrants. Newman married Rigel Grell (1923-2020) on August 14, 1944. They had one daughter, Nancy, who was born on October 6, 1945 and married Henry Drucker (1942-2002) in 1974. Nancy died in Oxford on 8 December 2020 aged 75. Jinx Falkenburg
Eugenia Lincoln "Jinx" Falkenburg (January 21, 1919 – August 27, 2003) was an American actress and model. She married journalist and publicist Tex McCrary in 1945.Autobiography: Jinx, Jinx Falkenburg, Duell, Sloan and Pearce (1951) Known as "Tex and Jinx", the couple pioneered and popularized the talk show format, first on radio and then in the early days of television. Dallas Selwyn Townsend Jr. (January 17, 1919 - June 1, 1995) was an American broadcast journalist who worked for CBS Radio and television for over 40 years. An award jury at Columbia University said of Townsend, "No other newsman of our day has had a broader acquaintance with news nor communicated it with more economy and precision."
