1913–14 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1913–14 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 19th season of rugby league football. Season summary Salford won the play-off final 5-3 against Huddersfield to record their first Championship. Huddersfield ended the regular season with the best record and were trying for their third title in a row. During their campaign, Albert Rosenfeld scored the most tries in a league season (80) for Huddersfield . The Challenge Cup Winners were Hull F.C. who beat Wakefield Trinity 6-0. This season saw Hull F.C. pay a then World Record £600 plus £14 per week for Billy Batten, a three-quarter at Hunslet. Jack Harrison set a Hull F.C. club record 52 tries during this season. Wigan won the Lancashire League, and Huddersfield won the Yorkshire League. The Rugby Football League Championship First Division was the top division of rugby league in Great Britain between 1895 and 1996, when it was replaced by the Super League. History 1895–1904: Foundations The first season of rugby league (1895–96) saw all the breakaway clubs play in a single league competition. The addition of new teams and the problems of travelling led to the league being split in two for the following season; into the Rugby league county leagues, Yorkshire League and the Rugby league county leagues, Lancashire League. RFL Yorkshire Cup
The RFL Yorkshire Cup is a rugby league county cup competition for teams in Yorkshire. Starting in 1905 the competition ran, with the exception of 1915 to 1918, until the 1992–93 season, when it folded due to fixture congestion. The competition was open to all senior member clubs of the Rugby Football League in Yorkshire and was normally played in the opening months of the season. On two occasions, 1918–19 and 1940–41 the competition was held towards the end of the season due to the two world wars. During the Second World War the Lancashire Cup was not played for between 1941 and 1945 and several Lancashire clubs were admitted into the Yorkshire Cup competition instead. The cup finals in 1942, 1943 and 1944 were played over two legs with the winner being determined by aggregate score over the two matches. Broughton Rangers
Broughton Rangers were one of the twenty-one rugby clubs which met at the George Hotel, Huddersfield, in 1895 to form the Northern Rugby Football Union. They were originally based in Broughton, Salford, but in 1933 moved to Gorton, Manchester to play at the Belle Vue Stadium, and were renamed Belle Vue Rangers in 1946. The club folded in 1955. History 1877–1905: Foundation The club was founded in 1877 as Broughton and added Rangers for its second season. The club's headquarters was the Bridge Inn on Lower Broughton Road and home games were played at Wheater's Field. On 15 December 1888, Rangers lost to New Zealand Natives 8–0.
