1908 Ontario General Election
The 1908 Ontario general election was the 12th general election held in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It was held on June 8, 1908, to elect the 106 Members of the 12th Legislative Assembly of Ontario ("MLAs"). The Ontario Conservative Party, led by Sir James P. Whitney, was elected for a second term in government, increasing its majority in the Legislature significantly. The Ontario Liberal Party, led by Alexander Grant MacKay, continued to lose seats. Allan Studholme became the province's first Labour MLA as the result of a 1906 Hamilton East by-election. He was re-elected in the 1908 general election and would remain in the legislature until his death in 1919. The four Toronto districts each elected two members in this election. Nipissing East
Nipissing East was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Ontario, active from 1902 to 1908. Due to population growth, the district of Nipissing was divided into Nipissing East and Nipissing West for the 1902 election. Huron West
Huron West was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1917. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was created from parts of Huron Centre, Huron North and Huron South ridings. The West Riding of the county of Huron was initially defined to consist of the townships of East Wawanosh, West Wawanosh, Ashfield, Colborne and Goderich, and the towns of Goderich and Clinton. In 1903, it was redefined to include the township of Hullett, and exclude the township of East Wawanosh. The electoral district was abolished in 1914 when it was redistributed between Huron North and Huron South ridings. Huron East
Huron East was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1917. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was created from parts of Huron Centre, Huron North and Huron South ridings. The East Riding of the county of Huron was initially defined to consist of the townships of Howick, Turnberry, Grey and Morris, the town of Wingham, and the villages of Brussels, Blyth and Wroxeter. In 1903, it was expanded to include the township of Wawanosh East. The electoral district was abolished in 1914 when it was merged into Huron North riding. Seaforth, Ontario
Seaforth (2021 population: 2,673) is a Southern Ontario community in the municipality of Huron East, in Huron County, Ontario, Canada. History Originally known as ''Four Corners'' and ''Steene's Corners'' after an early settler, much of the area of what is now Seaforth was acquired by brothers Christopher and George Sparling in anticipation of the construction of the Buffalo, Brantford and Goderich Railway. Developer James Patton of Barrie purchased the land and laid out a townsite in 1855. The name 'Seaforth' may be derived from the Scottish Seaforth Highlanders regiment or Loch Seaforth in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. A post office was established in Seaforth in 1859. Incorporation as a Village followed in 1868 and as a Town in 1874. Huron South
Huron South was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1935. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867 which divided the County of Huron into two ridings: Huron North and Huron South. In 1872, the County of Huron was divided into three ridings, and Huron Centre was created. The South Riding was defined to consist of the Townships of Goderich, Stanley, Hay, Stephen, and Usborne, and the Village of Clinton. In 1882, the South Riding was redefined to consist of the townships of McKillop, Hullett, Tuckersmith, Stanley, and Hay, the town of Seaforth, and the village of Bayfield. Huron County is a county of the province of Ontario, Canada. It is located on the southeast shore of its namesake, Lake Huron, in the southwest part of the province. The county seat is Goderich, also the county's largest community. The population reported in the 2021 Census for this predominantly agricultural area with many villages and small towns was 61,366 in a land area of 3,399 square kilometres. Sudbury (provincial Electoral District)
Sudbury is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1908. It is one of the two districts serving the city of Greater Sudbury. Its population in 2001 was 89,443. Sudbury was given its own riding provincially in the 1908 election, when the former riding of Nipissing West was divided into Sudbury and Sturgeon Falls. It initially included a large portion of the Sudbury District; in 1952, the boundaries were narrowed significantly to include only the city of Sudbury, the geographic township of McKim and the town of Copper Cliff.
