1908 Cuban Local And Provincial Elections
Local and provincial elections were held in Cuba on August 1, 1908. The elections took place during the Second American Occupation of Cuba and was intended by the Americans to allow for a withdrawal of U.S. troops and restoration of Cuban self-government. The National Conservative Party was considered to have performed unexpectedly well in the elections, as they won three out of six governorships and 28 mayoralties. No black candidates were elected to office in the elections, which prompted the creation of the Partido Independiente de Color on August 7, 1908. Provisional Government Of Cuba
The Provisional Government of Cuba ( Spanish: ''Gobierno Provisional de Cuba'') lasted from September 1906 to February 1909. This period was also referred to as the Second occupation of Cuba. When the government of Cuban President Tomás Estrada Palma collapsed, U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt ordered U.S. military forces into Cuba. Their mission was to prevent fighting between the Cubans, to protect U.S. economic interests there, and to hold free elections in order to establish a new and legitimate government. Partido Independiente De Color
The (PIC) was a Cuban political party composed almost entirely of African former slaves. It was founded in 1908 by African veterans of the Cuban War of Independence. In 1912, the PIC led a revolt in the eastern province of Oriente. The revolt was crushed and the party disbanded.
