Columbia Lions Men's Ice Hockey
The Columbia Lions men's ice hockey is an ice hockey team club in New York City, associated with Columbia University since its establishment in 1896. It went dormant following its 1937 season, but was eventually revived as a club team. It remains active in the 2020s. History Columbia was one of the first colleges in the United States to play ice hockey. The team benefitted from being virtually next door to the St. Nicholas Rink, one of the earliest artificial ice rinks in the country. Columbia played continually from 1896 through 1915, routinely competing against the best programs in the nation. They brought in experienced players to help improve the team like Tom Howard (ice hockey), Tom Howard and Percy LeSueur but a disagreement between college administrations dealt a mortal wound to the program. Brown Bears Men's Ice Hockey
The Brown Bears men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Brown University. The Bears are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island. History The men's ice hockey team at Brown is one of the country's oldest programs, having played their first game in 1898. That season, the team helped to form the first informal conference, the Intercollegiate Hockey Association, and wound up winning the league championship. While there was no formal declaration at the time, Brown's title is sometimes referred to as the first ice hockey national championship. Yale Bulldogs Men's Ice Hockey
The Yale Bulldogs men's ice hockey team represents Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut and is the oldest collegiate ice hockey team in the United States. The Bulldogs compete in the Ivy League and the ECAC Hockey League (ECACHL) and play their home games at Ingalls Rink, also called the Yale Whale. The current head coach is Keith Allain, who led the Bulldogs to an Ivy League championship in his first year as head coach (2006–2007 season). 1897–98 United States Collegiate Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1897–98 United States collegiate men's ice hockey season was the 4th season of collegiate ice hockey. With the addition of Brown University and Harvard University to the ice hockey ranks, the first ice hockey conference was formed and named the first unofficial collegiate champion. After the school year ended, Johns Hopkins University became the first college to dissolve its ice hockey program, citing travel costs, disagreements between the rink managers, and lack of support from the student body. Johns Hopkins would not field another ice hockey team for 90 years.
