Lloyd Lowndes Jr
Lloyd Lowndes Jr. (February 21, 1845 – January 8, 1905), a member of the United States Republican Party, was an American attorney and politician, the 43rd Governor of Maryland from 1896 to 1900 and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the sixth district of Maryland from 1873 to 1875. Early life and education He was born in 1845 in Clarksburg, Virginia (now West Virginia), son of Lloyd Lowndes and Elizabeth Moore; he was a great-grandson of early Bladensburg, Maryland settler, Christopher Lowndes (1713–1785). He attended Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He graduated from the law department of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1867. Frank Brown (governor)
Frank Brown (August 8, 1846 – February 3, 1920), a member of the United States Democratic Party, was the 42nd Governor of Maryland in the United States from 1892 to 1896. Born in 1846 in Sykesville, Maryland, he also served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1876 to 1878. He died in 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland. Brown was employed early on by the R. Sinclair & Co. Later he worked as a clerk in the State tobacco warehouse from 1870 to 1875. In 1880, he became the President of the Maryland State Agricultural & Mechanical Society. From 1886 to 1890 Brown was assigned to be the Postmaster of Baltimore. For the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 Brown was the President of Board of Managers in Maryland. Later in life he served as the President of the Baltimore Traction Company. Joshua Levering (September 12, 1845 - October 6, 1935) was a prominent Baptist and a candidate for president of the United States in 1896. He was president of the trustees of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, co-founder of the American Baptist Educational Society, and co-founder of the Layman's Missionary Movement. Maryland Gubernatorial Elections
Maryland gubernatorial elections have been held since statehood in 1867 to directly elect the Governor of Maryland and the officers that work with the winner candidate. After the initial election was held in November 5 1867, when Oden Bowie became the first Governor of Maryland, each subsequent election was held every four years in November. The candidates for the elections are previously selected in July of the same year in the Primary elections in Maryland, but the difference with the primaries is that in the General election voters can select candidates from any party since all parties are present in the voters ballot.
